Rajat Gupta could be classified as more of an authentic leader.

However, in relation to this incident, here are how the components of this leadership style were
affected, which in-turn would not only affect his present relationships, but also future ones. These
are as mentioned below:

• Self-Awareness: To know oneself - Rajat Gupta’s thinking process, as well as his critical thinking,
shows that he knew where his strengths lay. He believed in people and they, in turn, helped him turn
into one of the biggest success stories until his undoing.

• Relational Transparency: Being genuine - Though the case facts remain unclear, the old saying
“There can’t be smoke without fire” comes into play here.

Rajat Gupta’s decisions and whether he really indulged in insider trading remains unclear but there
would have been some unfair play on his part that eventually led to his downfall.
