Final Project Proposal

I am doing this project for my love of the beautiful game of soccer. I have played

this sport my whole life, and haven’t got many opportunities to photograph a game,

because I am usually playing. I will be attending a very important soccer game that my

friend is playing in. It is one of the biggest games of the year for club soccer in Utah. In

my project, I hope to not only capture action shots, but also the emotions of the game. I

see very little obstacles that could happen while doing this project. One is the size of my

lens. My lens is too short to reach across the whole soccer field, so I will have to move

where I am depending on the shots I want to take. I believe that this is a good project for

this class because it highlights the use of shutter speed and also the composition

aspects of photography.

My main learning objective for this project is to be able to adjust my shutter

speed to help capture freeze frames while keeping the exposure constant. This can be

measured by comparing the images that will be in my final project. I will accomplish this

learning objective by using my light meter constantly, and making sure that stays at or

just below 0. The game is being played at night, so it might be too dark for action shots,

and if that is the case I will slow down my shutter speed and just focus on individual

players and not the ball. My audience will help me decide if I have completed my

learning objective. Once I take my picture, I first will evaluate them. Since I am biased, I
will then have the class evaluate my work, and give me feedback on my learning

objective.

The game I plan to attend is this Friday the 23rd. If I am unable to get all my

photos done then, I will go to a game that happens on Saturday. This is the worst case

scenario because I want my photos to have a theme, which includes exposure, colors,

and time of day. I will prepare to shoot before I leave for the game by making sure I

have an SD card with enough storage, and also have my camera charged. While

shooting, I will take as many photos as possible, and after the game, I will evaluate the

photos and delete the ones I do not wish to have. While evaluating, I will also decide

what I believe to be my strongest picture, and I will print that picture out. With the other

pictures, I plan to make a presentation to show to the class.
