JAZZ WAS EVOLVING BY WAY OF NEW ORLEANS AND SUCH GREATS AS LOUIE ARMSTRONG AND HIS SAVOY FIVE, EARL FATHER HINES, AND MANY OTHERS WERE IN GREAT DEMAND THROUGHOUT THE NATION. LATER ON BOB CROSBY AND HIS DIXIELAND BAND GAINED POPULARITY AND THE BOOGIE WOOGIE STYLE OF PIANO, EXEMPLIFIED BY BOB CROSBY'S PIANIST BOB ZURKE, CAUGHT ON. SOME GREAT BOOGIE PIANO MUSIC CAME OUT OF THIS PERIOD. COMPOSI. TIONS SUCH AS “YANCEY SPECIAL" BY JIMMY YANCEY, PINETOP SMITH’S BLUES, HONKY TONK BY MEADE LUX LEWIS, BUMBLE BOOGIE BY JACK FINNA, AND THE MANY GREAT WORKS OF THE AMMONDS AND JOHNSON TEAM CHARACTERIZED THIS DRIVING STYLE. THE TERRIFIC DRIVE OF THE BOOGIE BEAT, NO DOUBT, HAS ATTRACTED MANY STUDENTS TO PLAY THIS TYPE OF PIANO MUSIC, BOOGIE PIANO PERFORMANCE REQUIRES AGILE COORDINATION AND INDEPENDENCE OF BOTH HANDS ALONG: WITH A DEFINITE SENSE OF RHYTHM AND SYNCOPATION. Biography of Mr. Rene Favre Born in Neuchatel, Switzerland, Rene Fovre got his carly training from his fether. His father was @ very fine musician who encouraged the study of the piano at an early age. Young Favre showed on early talent and a sincero desire to make music his profession. At @ very young musicion he played for dances, road houses, and steamboots on the Mississippi River as well as excursion boots traveling from St. Louis to New Orlecas. Later on, having ecquired much experience and study, he played tho legitimate theaters. Rene ployed with Frank Traumbauers’ Jozz Band on the road for several months and made eighteon sides of recordings with this fine band which featured him on Honky-Tonk Train Blues, (a very difficult boogie solo) and Little Rock Getaway, which were made in New York City. Returning to St, Lovis he played ot the leading hotels, the Park Plaze and the Chase and became stoff pianist with the Mutual Broadcasting Co. (KW.K.) in St. Louis. Leter he joined Columbia Brocdcasting Co. {C.BS.) os a featured soloist with the studio orchestce filing the neiworks from coast to coost for fen years. While @t the Columbia Broadcasting System, Favre was the leader of the dixieland group then called the Riverboat Seven and of a Jaz group called the Favre Four.
