Tugs are boats to help in the maneuvering of other vessels, when pulling or pushing boats, they can

also two barges, damaged ships among other floating objects.

The tugboats have motors with a power of 400 to 20,000 horsepower, at the beginning any small and
powerful boat could do the towing service, but now it is a boat specifically designed for that work, an
important feature is its traction capacity to fixed point or bollard pull.
The tugs have solved many problems due to the large size of the boats that go from one port to
another and have greatly reduced the risk they had when entering a port that could have changed due
to environmental conditions, it is important to understand that Tugs with different design
characteristics have different handling characteristics. This is due to the combination of the hull
profile, engine, rudder type and propeller configuration, that is why there are different types of
tugboats.
The conventional or more common tugboats are equipped with fixed propellers, individual rudders,
some have gone to the use of controllable pitch propellers and tip rudders, but the main characteristic
of these boats is the maneuverability with which they have and the ability to steer. These tugs usually
have the towing point near the stern.
In this work we intend to point out the main design characteristics with which a tugboat must
comply, in this case the model ASD 3212 designed by the company Damen of class DNV GL has
been selected, since it is a boat that can be found in most important ports and when taken as a
reference as far as tugs are concerned. 5
Sizing
Database and regression analysis.
To determine the main dimensions, we proceeded to search for information on similar existing boats,
close to the main entrance requirement, which was that the boat had a fixed-point tug of 75 tons.
With the information collected, a database was created, shown below, in which the main
parameters of a vessel (length, beam, prop, ETC) were considered.
