OPDOC-S°-C1V-022 Spec for Runway and Taxivay Paiting doc MELUT BASIN OIL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT DOCUMENT NO: PDOC-SP-CIV-022 REV.: 0 PAGE 3 of 5 4.0 DESCRIPTION 4.1 This specification provides the minimum requirements for the painting of numbers, markings, and stripes on the surface of runways and taxiways at the locations shown on the plans, of as directed by OWNER. 2.0 CODES, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS 21 CONTRACTOR shall meet or exceed the requirements of the latest edition of the following codes, regulations and standards, except as superseded herein. In cases where more than one code, regulation or standard apply to the same condition, the most stringent shall be followed. In the event of a conffict between this specification and other specifications or correspondence, OWNER shall be consulted and a ruling, in writing, shall be obtained before any work is started. Federal Aviation administration (FAA) + TT-P-4952 Paint, Traffic Black, and Airfield Marking, Waterbore * _TT-B-1325 Beads (Glass Spheres); Retro-Reflective 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 Paint 3.1.1 Paint shall meet the requirements of FAA. Specification TT-P-1952. 3.2 Reflective Media 3.2.1 Glass spheres shall meet the requirements of FAA. Specification TT-B-1325, Type Il, gradation A. Use of glass spheres is at the option of OWNER. 4.0 CONSTRUCTION METHODS 4.1 Weather Limitations The painting shall be performed only when the surface is dry, when the atmospheric temperature is above 7° C, and when the weather is not foggy or windy. OPDOC-SP-CN-022 Spec for Runway and Taxivay Paining.doe MELUT BASIN OIL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT DOCUMENT NO: PDOC-SP-CIV-022 PAGE 4 of 5 42 4.24 4.2.2 43 43.4 44 444 45 454 45.2 453 454 Equipment Al equipment for the work shall be approved by OWNER and shall include the apparatus necessary to properly clean the existing surface, a mechanical marking machine, and such auxiliary hand-painting equipment as may be necessary to satisfactorily complete the job. ‘The mechanical marker shall be an atomizing spray-type marking machine suitable for application of traffic paint. it shall produce an even and uniform film thickness at the required coverage and shall be designed so as to apply markings of uniform cross sections and clear-cut edges without running or spattering. Preparation Of Surface Immediately before application of the paint, the surface shall be dry and free from dirt, grease, oil, laitance, or other foreign material which would reduce the bond between the paint and the pavement. The area to be painted shall be cleaned by sweeping and blowing or by other methods as required to remove all dirt, laitance, and loose materials. Layout Of Markings ‘On those sections of pavement where no previously applied markings are available to serve as @ guide, the proposed markings shall be laid out in advance of the paint application. Application Markings shall be applied at the locations and to the dimensions and spacing shown ‘on the plans. Paint shall not be applied until the layout and condition of the surface have been approved by the engineer. The paint shall be mixed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and applied to the pavement with a marking machine at the rate of 9 to 10 square meters per liter. The addition of thinner will not be permitted. A period of 24 hours shall elapse between placement of a bituminous surface course or seal coat and application of the paint. The edges of the markings shall not vary from a straight line more than 12 mm in 15 m, and the dimensions shall be within a tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent. Glass spheres, if required, shall be distributed to the surface of the marked areas immediately after application of the paint. The spheres shall be applied at the rate of 1.2 kg per liter of paint. CONTRACTOR shall furnish certified test reports for the materials shipped to the project. The reports shall not be interpreted as a basis for final acceptance. CONTRACTOR shall notify OWNER upon arrival of a shipment of paint to the job site. All emptied containers shall be returned to the paint storage area for checking by OWNER. The containers shall not be removed from the airport or destroyed until authorized by OWNER. Protection After application of the paint, all markings shall be protected from damage until the paint is dry. All surfaces shall be protected from disfiguration by spatter, splashes, spillage, or drippings of paint. GUARANTEE CONTRACTOR shall guarantee the Work against defective materials, poor ‘workmanship and improper design for a period one year after the equipment has been in regular operation, the total petiod not to exceed eighteen months from the date of completed construction.
