Day 1 (March 18,2019)

Everyone is preparing for our deployment. I already know that I am assign in the Bureau of Fire

Protection, Vigan City. We are so excited for that because that’s the first time that we should

have work in the offices.

Bureau of Fire Protection, Vigan City- This the office where I was assigned to conduct my work

immersion. On my First day of immersion March 18, 2019 (Monday) I was very excited and

somewhat nervous because of the new environment and the new people surrounding me I didn’t

have any idea of what kind of people they are because It’s my first time to enter the Bureau of

Fire Protection (BFP), It made me adjust myself with their personalities and attitudes. When I

arrived in the place of BFP I was surprised to see the criminologist, Law Enforcement

Administration, and Humanities and Social Sciences because I was expected that we were the

only one STEM (Science Technology and Engineering Mathematics of University of Northern

Philippine who will going to work there. After that F02 Carlos Dela Cruz discuss the protocol

and oriented us, he introduces the personnel’s and their ranks. After that each of us presented

ourselves through songs and dance, and their motto in life. We stay there the whole day because

we are so many. We are almost 40 students of university of northern phillipne. But it was very

happy and enjoybale. We ended our day in laughters. And I learned for this day that you should

know ho to get along with people and enjoy everyting you do.
Day 2 (March 19,2019)

This is my second day of my Work Immersion at BFP. I came early in the morning. While

waiting for the lectures I clean the office After that when I’m done cleaning FO3 Anthony

Manuel ask me to do his daily time record. After that SFO1 Mariefe R. Unciano also start her

lectures about Chemistry of fire. It is the heat, fuel oxygen and chemical chain reaction. When

one of them are not present there is no fire and that’s the thing that we should know. While we

are listening to the discussion, Law of Enforcement and administration (LEA) start to try the

laddering so we also observe them in their laddering with the help of F03 Jan Richard Abubo.

While I’m watching I felt like, it was very nervous because I saw the faces of the LEA that they

are nervous because the ladder is so high for them to climb and do the foot lock position. But in

the end, they are all happy and I saw the faces that even though it was hard, one of their members

are fell down but he’s okay and they are nervous while doing the laddering they also enjoy.

Because It was a privilege for them to try that laddering.

In the afternoon SF02 Leopoido Lindsey Ayumon Jr. start the lecture about the Fire Safety

Inspection. I learned for this day that you have to comply all the suggestions, instructions and

requirements of Bureau of Fire Protection the when you are having a business-like super market,

apartment, buildings and etc. to be safe and ready in case of emergency.

Day 2 (March 20,2019)

This is my third day of my Work Immersion at BFP. As I always do, I came early in the

morning. The first thing we do on this day is listening to the lecture of FO3 Anthony Manuel, he

ecture us about the phases of firefighting. He mentions that Firefighting is the act of attempting

to prevent the spread of and extinguish significant unwanted fires in buildings, vehicles,

woodlands, etc. A fire fighter suppresses fires to protect lives, property and the environment.

And the ten phases of firefighting are Pre- fire planning, sizing up, rescue, cover exposure,

confinement, ventilation extinguishment, salvage, overhauling and post fire analysis. In the

afternoon F02 John Carlo A. Dela Cruz teach the LEA on first aid, bandaging and rescue carries

and we just observe them and listen to the discussion until they finish it. After that we also

observe the criminologist and LEA to form. Whole day my work is to listen and observe. This

day is quite enjoyable. And I learned for this day the phases of firefighting and basic steps in first

aid.

Day 4 (March 21,2019)

This is my fourth day for my work immersion at BFP. As I always do, I came early in the

morning. The first thing we do on this day is listening and observing on the lectures of SFO1

Erwin Quilala. He did not include us in his discussion because we are too young for that topic,
there is a deeper part of the lectures that its hard for us to understand because we are STEM

Student unlike criminologist that they have a knowledge on investigation because our topic for

this lecture is Fire Arson Investigation. We just observe them on what they are going to in

investigating a crime. In the afternoon we observe again the LEA in Rescue Ropes and Knots

together with the criminologist and HUMSS students. FO3 Jan Richard P. Abubo are the one

who facilitate and discuss the Rescue Ropes and Knots. After they discussion there is a

competition between the two groups of LEA in order to see if they understand Rescue Ropes and

Knots. This day is full of lectures and observing criminologist and LEA but it is enjoyable.

Because when you are observing and listening there is a knowledge you get about someone.

Day 5 (March 22,2019)

This is my fifth day for my work immersion at BFP. As I always do, I came early in the morning.

We are very happy and excited because SFO1 Leopoldo Lindsey F. Ayunon Jr. the chief of Fire

Safety Inspection invited us, the STEM Students only to join the inspection in the Brgy 1

Amianance, Vigan City. We are very excited to ride in the firetruck because it was our first-time

ride on the firetruck. Not just like that but we also enjoy in the inspection we measure the

distance of the houses in order to know and to be ready in case of the emergency. In the

afternoon we are also invited to join the Fire drill in the Municipality of Vigan City. It was very

fun because to part on this program is such a privilege of us in order to know what to do in case

of emergency. After attending the the Fire Drill of the Municipality of Vigan, we also attend in

the fire drill of LEA in tamag grounds. It is their last in BFP so that their the frist who will going

to fire drill unlike of us we have more day to stay in BFP. While I am watching them I felt the

difficulty on what they are doing in the middle of the afternoon. It is very hot but still they can
manage to exercise in the middle of the sun. After their exercise they group them into two groups

and start the fire drill. They tired too much but, in the end, I saw their faces that there are smiling

because they enjoyed too much because they take a shower using the firetruck. This is is full of

activities but it is fun and enjoyable. I learned in this day is to be always ready and alert in case

of emergency.

Day 6 (March 25,2019)

This is my sixth day of my work immersion at the BFP. I came early because Im excited on our

subject in that day. FO3 Jan Richard P. Abubo are the one who facilitate and discuss to us the

Rescue Ropes and Knots. We started the basic rescue knots it is the Alpine butterfly loop,

bowline knot, clove hitch, double fisherman, over hand stopper, figure eight figure 8 double girth

hitch we spend our time in the morning in basic rescue knots because it is hard for us to do and

memorize the step in doing the difference types of rescue knots. In the afternoon we continued

discussing and performing the basic types of rescue knots it is the hasty harness, girt hitch the

figure 8 bend we spend our day in doing and discussing the rescue ropes and knots. It is fun

because we learned some basic rescue knots.

Day 7 (March 26 ,2019)

This is my seventh day of my work immersion at the BFP. As I always do, I came early in the

morning. On our POI where just going to listen to the lectures. F02 John Carlo A. Dela Cruz

will be going to discuss to us the First Aid Bandaging and Splinting and Rescue Carries. Rescue

Carries is the first thing he discuss to us. One rescuer is the ankle pull, shoulder pull, one-person

lift, pack strap carries and the last is the fireman’s carry all of this was demonstrate by the LEA. I

understand all the rescue carries because they demonstrate well and sir Carlos teach us very well.

The next topic is the first aid, he discusses first what inside in the first aid kit and next is he

taught us on how to first aid the minor and major injuries and what to do in case of emergency.

In the afternoon he discusses to us the uses of triangular bandage. The triangle can be folded

down into a “cravat”. The medical uses for a triangular bandage are sling arm, head injury,

sprained ankle bleeding wounds, eye injuries, and splint for broken legs. After that the last thing

he discuss to us on how to Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) this is the life saving technique

useful for emergencies it is including here the heart attack or near drowning, in which someone’s

breathing or heartbeat has stopped. After the discussion we are inform to join the form of LEA

and criminologist together with the HUMSS students. I thought we are going to do the push ups

and some hard exercises of what lea and criminologist are doing but its nit it is ony the basix

exercise for us to be condition in our firedrill. This day is enjoyable I learned a lot on this day

like how to do the rescue carries, the Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), And the first aid

bandaging.
Day 8 (March 27,2019)
This is my eighth day of my work immersion at the BFP. As I always do, I came early in the

morning. On our POI where going to do the Hose Throwing F03 Jan Richard P. Abubo will be

the one who will going to discuss to us the Hose throwing, coupling connection, hose roll and

laddering. The first thing he discuss to us is what is the proper of coupling connection, the next is

hose throwing after he discuss to us the proper of hose throwing, he gave us the opportunity to

the hose throwing but before that he said that there are some difference types of hose there is

bigger to smaller size of hose. It was very enjoyed to try the hose throwing but in hose rolling its

kind a difficult because you need to do the duck walk position in order for you not to have back

pain after doing the hose rolling. Sir Jan also discuss to us the different types of hose rolling like

butterfly roll, single donut roll, twin donut roll and etc. The proper hose rolling describe a on

how to prevent water hammer. In the afternoon Sir Jan teach us on how to do the laddering and

put lock position. I feel nervous because the ladder that we need to climb is too high, It’s just like

the LEA last week they felt so nervous. But when you are thinking that your going to fail you

cannot do it but when you’re thinking that you can, you can do it. And I did it all you have to do

is to follow the steps and instructions of you instructor and I swear it will be going to be enjoy

when your going to climb and do the put lock position. This is is full of challenges but it was fun

and enjoyable. I learned for this day is you need to be strong and face your fear and I also

learned on how to do the hose throwing and rolling and how to do the laddering.
Day 9 (March 28,2019)

This is my ninth day of my Work Immersion at BFP. As I always do I came early in the morning.

This day is our preparation for our fire drill tomorrow (Friday) we do not have any work for on

the morning where just watch again some episode of Chicago fire again and where just waiting

again for the food to cook because where going to buddle fight as we always do in the lunch. It

is also the last day of criminologist and LEA here in BFP because starting tomorrow they will be

having their Class in Friday so it’s their last day today here in BFP. And finally, the food is

already done the boodle fight is already set so we eat lunch together with the criminologist,

LEA, HUMSS Students and BFP Personnel. We are very happy because we are given a chance to

bonding each other like this, it was very enjoyed. In the afternoon it is the fire drill of the

criminologist and LEA, and we are required to attend their fire drill at tamag grounds, Vigan City

for us to be able to observe what are they going to do so that we know what to do already we

are going to fire drill tomorrow. All the lectures will be applied now in the fire drill a lot of them

are failed because they don’t follow and listen to the instructions. I feel the pain and tired of

them but stiil they continue the firedrill until they finish all the acivities and task. But in the end

I saw in their faces that they have fun and enjoyed the firedrill. Because of that I’m excited to

do also the fire drill tommorrow And Im hoping that hopefully we can all finish the activities

safe. This day is full of challenges but enjoyable. I learned for this that you need to be alert in

case of emergency and to enoy what you are doing.

Day 10 (March 29,2019)

This is my tenth day of my Work Immersion at BFP. My lat day here in BFP I was very sad

because in almost 10 days that I immersion here is full of joy and laughters I’ll be missing this

place where I can laugh even though I have a problem. This day I came early because I just want

to spent the remaining day to be with the BFP Personels. We are just waiting for the food to cook

so that we can prepare our boodle fight together with the bfp personles and the fire marshals

Nimencio Valenciano Jr. While waiting for the food to cook we watch a movie about the chicago

fire. While watching the movie the food is already done to cooked so we set up the boodle fight.

And this is the one of the things that I’ll be miss in the Bfp the boodle fight because we almost

always boodle fight here in the BFP every lunch. In the afternoon we are very exicted because

this is the day that we are going to do the fire drill at the tamag grounds, Vigan City 1:30 pm

before we start the fire drill the first thing we do is to form the thing is to exercise in the middle

of the sun, it was very hot but we need to enjure the hot we felt after that FO3 Jan Richard

Abubo group us in to two it is a mixed group of stem and humss. After that we already start the

firedrill, the suppression of fire. In my group my part is to throw the fourth hose and connect it to

the the fifth hose and after that we help the nustle man to supressed the fire. We are already tired

to the first task but we need to be enjure our tiredness because our last task is to aim the nustle to

the target are to be able to drop the terget and we need to tranfer the biggest hose with pressure to

the next side we need to imagine that there is a wall over there so we need to carry the hose to be

able to transfer the hose to the other side and drop the target area. It was very tired but we

enjoyed at lot. The part that I super enjoyed is we take a shower in the firetruck and after that we

go to the fire station. All of us is happy to brush the hose after use it I enjoy so much on this day

even though it was our last day. It was my one of mg biggest achieve is to try the firedrill and to
be able to experience the work of a Fireman and fire women. I learned for this day what to do in

case of emergency and I learned that being A fireman and firewomen is not an easy job but it

was fun and enjoyable.
