The Ice Master

The voyage of Karluk was deemed the greatest and most elaborate
Arctic expedition in history. Vilhjalmur Stefansson, an anthropologist and
ethnologist hopes to find evidence that would prove his staunchly belief
that there lay a lost continent under the Arctic ice. Consequently, he hires
a determined, skillful captain who goes by the name of Bob Bartlett. The
Karluk sets sail.

The inexperienced crew knew very little of what was in for them
both physically and mentally. Moreover, they were addicted to the eerily
haunting diary of George Washington de Long, the captain of a ship called
the Jeanette, whose fate it was to be crushed by the deadly Arctic ice.
Trouble was lurking just around the corner.

The frozen sea was approaching the Karluk like an executioner

advancing towards his victim. The hapless and hopeless crew couldn’t do
anything about it. Stefansson couldn’t bear to stay on a ship where he
would eventually die, so he and several others left the ship on the pretense
of hunting for food. On January 10 th, 1914, the ice shattered the ship's hull.
Abandoned by their leader, forced to leave the ship, and trapped in the ice,
could things get any worse?
