Characteristic - exhibits massive quality, thick walls, round arches and symmetrical plans

Functions - used art, largely painting to communicate important things

Gothic

Characteristic - formalized sweetness and grace, elegance and richness of details and an idealized
wuality

Functions - used to decorate the exterior of cathedral and other religious buildings.
