Pigeons shift their preference toward locations of food that take more effort
to obtain

This study determined the impact achievability has on animals choosing a

destination to seek food. Pigeons in particular were tested if finding food with a greater

effort causes more attraction to that location. In experiment 1, pigeons were observed

when eating out of feeders. 1 peck at one location and 30 pecs at another location, the

pigeon would rather eat from the 30-pec location. Another experiment was conducted,

similar circumstances but each feeding station required the same amount of effort

(pecs) to obtain food. Both experiments shared similar data. The pigeons in particular

will go to a further extent to receive food. The thought reasoning behind this is that the

animal seeks a larger reward, it is more satisfactory when food is acquired from a more

challenging position, therefore creating a pattern for the pigeon’s food preference.
