The present simple to the present continuous

This exercise gives beginner students an introduction to the use of present


continuous for present actions that are happening now. Students are required to
rephrase each statement using the present continuous.

1. He sits on his chair - He is sitting on his chair.


2. He reads a newspaper - He is reading a newspaper.
3. She writes an email - She is writing an email.
4. The woman talks to her children - The woman is talking to her children.
5. The students listen to the teacher - The students are listening to the teacher.
6. I drive to work.
7. It rains outside.
8. The rain stops.
9. I leave work early on Friday.
10. He thinks about his exam.
11. He revises for his exam.
12. She answers the questions.
13. They eat their breakfast.
14. They watch the television.
15. The boys play football.
16. The team trains for their football match.
17. The teacher tells us what to do.
18. The people dance at the party.
19. My mother cleans the kitchen.
20. The man runs in the park.
21. The snow falls outside.
22. The teacher comes into the classroom.
23. The old woman feeds the ducks in the park.
24. We walk together in the park.
25. My knee hurts because I fell.
26. I share my biscuits with my friends.
27. I buy new clothes to go to a wedding.
28. I spend a lot of money on clothes for a wedding.
29. The police officer gives us directions.
