Notes from Parent/Teacher Conference with Jackson’s Mother
-Mrs. Cooper (Jackson’s homeroom and Science/SS teacher) said
that Jackson has been doing better since coming to school on a hybrid schedule (instead of all virtual) She said Jackson is very pleasant and still needs many reminders in person, but usually an aid is in the room to assist. -Ms. Work expressed her concern about test scores in Mrs. Cooper’s class specifically. Mrs. Cooper agreed and said that even though Jackson is pulled into a small group/individual setting for testing, he tends to answer questions quickly without putting much thought into it. -Mrs. Shannon (my cooperating teacher) also echoed Mrs. Cooper’s observations in her classroom. I also informed Mrs. Work that this was the case even during assignments we would complete together in class. I said that, for example, we work through a page in out math packet and Jackson is already on the next page. Mrs. Shannon then said she is beginning to encourage Jackson to read test questions aloud to the aid to ensure he is at least reading the questions and answer options. -Another suggestion Mrs. Shannon made was to have Jackson come four days a week instead of two. All teachers, including myself, expressed a concern of missing assignments from Jackson. We believed that he would be more successful with completing and turning in assignments if he was in school. We also believed testing in person would help Jackson focus and not rush as much.
