Vaporlab™ is a small, rugged, lightweight, intrinsically safe, single-gas GC analyzer designed for field analysis of hazardous workplace gases and vapors (such as Benzene, Acrylonitrile, Vinyl Chloride, 1,3-Butadiene and Ethylene Oxide) in ambient air. What comes with the Vaporlab2 The following items ore included with Voporlab™: Battery charger for the NiMH cells used fo operate Vaporlab™ Shoulder strap Hard, waterproof Pelican carrying case Operating Manval Date View Data Manipulation Sofware Other accessories which can be purchased ore: * Calibration kit (zero air, calibration gas, 2 regulators, 2 somple bags, hard case) + Chest strap for handsfree operation + Replacement Scrubber Assembly How does Vaporlab™ operate? Vaporlab™ uses temperature controlled gas chromatography to analyze ambient air. Samples are drawn into Vaporlab™ through the sample inlet by an internal sampling pump and then is ‘absorbed onto the concentrator. Upon completion of the collection phase, the concentrator is, rapidly heated and the sample is released into the carrier gas stream. The carrier gas stream then moves the sample through the chromatographic columns, where multi-component separation ‘occurs to identify the target application vapor. After completion of the separation process, the sample components elute into the solid-state detector. The concentration is displayed in parts per million and the results can be stored in the data log for access at a later time. Vaportab™ is a dual mode instrument + Sniff Mode = Hot Spots for Analysis = RealTime Surveying — Efficient Use of Operator Time Measure Mode — Quantification of Chemical Concentration What is the typical calibration interval for Vaporlab"? Vaporlab™ should be calibrated before each daily deployment to verify performance and to correct for drift in the detector response factor. Voporlab™ Questions and Answors Page | of 4 04/2004 What type of detector does the Vaporlab™ use? Vaporlab™ uses a proprietary solid state sensor as its detector. Vapors elute from the column and react on the chemically sensitive coating of the detector surface. The vapor coating interaction results in a signal whose frequency is related fo the vapor concentration. What are the key advantages of the solid state detector? Longer sensor life as compared to a PID Larger dynamic range than « PID Extremely small size yet VERY effective Semiselective detection mechanism ‘Minimal interference from non-target gases (eg: HO, CO and CO.) No external support required ie, no compressed gas} | Vaporlab™ difficult to operate by a non-technical operator? Voporlab™ is easy-to-use and does not require the operator fo have a technical background or be versed in gas chromatography. Quite the opposite, Voporlab” is designed specifically for use by the nontechnical field operator, who need only respond to the easy to follow prompls provided by a menudriven interface Voporlab™ offers quick field sample analysis. The user enters only 2 keystrokes, “Measure” and “Enter” and Vaporlab™ will perform a sample analysis. Additionelly, Vaporlab™ has safe guards in place to keep on operator from running an analysis when the unit fails the initial system startup check. Can Vaporlab™ detect other chemicals? Yes, the detectors can be optimized to respond to different organic chemical vapors. The introductory application of Vaporlab™ is benzene analysis for the petrochemical environment Subsequent applications will include focus on chemicals such as Vinyl Chloride, Ethylene Oxide, 1, 38Butadiene and others yet fo be identified. To find out whether @ particular organic vapor is detectable, contact MSI at 270.745.0099 or sales@microsensorsystems.com or complete a Vaporlab™ Application Request Form to help us better understand your specific application requirements. ls Vaporlab™ “Intrinsically safe"? Yes, Vaporlab™ is MetLabs certified intrinsically safe for: + Class 1, Division 1 Groups A, B,C, D Areas T6 International Certification ~ EEx {ia] 11¢ T6 CE Approval FCC Class B Vopertab™ Questions and Answars Page 2 of 4 04/2004 Do you need an external keyboard to operate Vaporlab™? Nol All required operational and instructional information can be entered through the keypad on the front panel. What is required to turn on Vaporlab™ from a cold start? Basically very little is required to start up Vaporlab™ to begin data sampling. Simply activate the instrument power switch. The pump will activate and pressure up the carrier system and begin column heating. It takes approximately 15 minutes for Vaporlab to stabilize. After system warm up is completed the operator can choose to perform a “Measure” run, “Sniff” survey or instrument “Calibration”. All of these functions are directly accessible using the mode keys located in the bottom section of the Vaporlab™ keypad. How is a sample introduced to Vaporlab™? The Vaporlab™ can accept samples in several ways; either directly via the sample inlet, gas sample bag or glass syringe. The sample bag and the syringe must be attached to the sample inlet. This is done by using a lure lock connection. The Vaporlab™ uses an internal sample pump to collect the sample, The sample is collected on the instrument concentrator. This insures o reproducible injection volume that avoids the human error associated with direct injection through «column injection port All samples must be delivered at ambient pressure ony negative or pressurization of the sample will cause Vaporlab™ to malfunction Can you adjust Voporlab™’s pre-programmed application? Applications for Vaporlab™ are predefined by the factory. There is no reason to adjust the system parameters as they have been optimized for the specific application. If you are having performance problems please contact MSI for assistance What software is needed to download data from Vaporlab™ to a PC? MSI Dato View software has been developed to provide a convenient way to collect the Vaporlab™'s data log. This software is designed to run on a Windows based PC. Data View can also allow the operator to view the reel time chromatographic data. This feature allows the user fo view the analysis chromatogram and save the data for future reference Voportab™ Questions and Answers Page 4 of 4 04/2004 fp asta ecu ecar aa The Vaporlab™ is a portable, handheld, intrinsically safe analyzer for the detection of OSHA regulated toxic gases, such as benzene, acrylonitrile, and vinyl chloride, in complex ambient air environments Voporlab” provides highly accurate and reliable detection of targeted toxic gases at subppm levels, thereby offering unprecedented analytical power to rapidly locate and quantify toxic gas emissions.
