Past Perfect

• O past perfect é formado pelo verbo auxiliar (had) +

o particípio do verbo principal.
• Exemplos:
• When I got home, my sister had left.
(Quando eu cheguei em casa, minha irmã tinha saído)
• They had never been on an airplane before that trip.
(Eles nunca estiveram em um avião antes daquela
viagem)
• By the time I arrived at school, my teacher had left.
(Quando eu cheguei na escola meu professor tinha
saído)
 Observação
É necessário observar que o particípio dos verbos em
inglês será formado de duas formas:
• os regulares, pelo acréscimo da partícula “-ed”;
• os irregulares que possuem, cada um, sua própria
forma.
A forma negativa do “past perfect” é formado pelo
acréscimo do “not” à frase (forma contrata: hadn’t)

• Exemplos:
• I had not (hadn’t) read that book before. (Eu
não tinha lido esse livro antes)
 A interrogativa do past perfect é formado pela
alteração da posição do verbo “Had” na frase,
ficando posicionado antes do sujeito.
Exemplos:
• Had they already finished their work ?
• (Eles já tinham acabado o trabalho deles)
• Had you seen the movie before reading the book?
• Você tinha visto o filme antes de ler o livro?
