There was a history of allergy, formerly in the patient. Nine months ago Phillip suffered
red, itchy, circumscribed, with central blanching patches on his skin, which appeared
simultaneously with swollen lips and itchy throat after taking Paracetamol. The parents
noted that he never get such symptoms after he took the same drug before. He was brought
to the Out Patient Department Hasan Sadikin General Hospital. Concerned with his itchy throat,
the doctor advised his parents to hospitalized Phillip, for careful observation and management.

Both of his parents suffer from asthma and his sister has urticaria due to food allergy.

Question:

1. Identify the problem of Phillip’s condition on nine months ago


2. Why does Phillip developed symptoms after taking paracetamol which has never
occured before? What kind of immune response happened in Phillips? What is
hypersensitivity? What about their types?
3. What are the immunologic cells that involved during these process?
4. Generate hypotheses which account for his former problem. Prioritize your list of
hypotheses
5. What further information is needed to prove or disprove the hypotheses?
