Therefore, | don't play the accents heavy and the eighth note figures are only moderately detached, not staccato. ‘The bar before 4 should be gi care of the pause on the third bes Play the sixteenth notes so that they are clear and not rushed, and be sure to allow good dynamic contrast. HANDEL ‘Aria con Variazioni Much of this Aria is a study in the control of dynamics, which are crucial to the phrasing. Be precise in the alternation of loud and soft to define the smaller phrase sections. | interpret the long slur marks to indicate the larger phrases, Using a very legato Da tongue, | play only those slurs indicated by the smaller slur markings. ‘The accents in a piece like this should be more breath accents than tongue accents, They are only a melodic stress. In the first bar, I start the turn on the note. it would get too cluttered to start on the upper note. Play the second variation legato, so that it doesn’t ‘sound like an exercise. | play the third variation at @ slower tempo because of its more lyric quality. Then, pick up the tempo slightly for variations 4 and 5. five beats to take LEOPOLD MOZART Concerto This Concerto is transcribed down a major third from the original which is in concert D major for D trumpet. Since this is in concert Bh major for Bp trumpet, the notes are fingered the same as if you were playing in D major on D trumpet. The major challenge of the piece is to play lyrically in the register from G to C above the staff without forcing. ‘The forte should be lyrical in the first movement. The fermata five bars from the end of the first movement Consists of four beats (in this case four eighth notes.) ‘There are two slow grace notes at the end of the trill before it resolves. 4 8th notes D r By contrast, the second movement is played quite marcato because of the characteristic of repeated notes in the theme.
