Bird Strikes

-no one around office said they have noticed birds hitting their windows (didn’t ask Jamal because he
wasn’t in any of the times I walked by) -> noticed that almost all had blinds closed when I walked
around, which was stated to be one of the best ways to prevent bird strikes by reducing glare

-noticed that Ray had both blinds hallway open, also only person to report hearing bird strikes

Prevention:

Decals: Bad option -> ugly

- Hawk outlines not found to be effective: it’s not the shape of the outline that’s effective, it’s that
it breaks up the reflection
- Decals must be placed 4 inches apart in columns and 2 inches apart in rows across the whole
window
- Similarly, owl statues don’t work because the birds quickly learn they don’t move

Window Films: Bad option -> expensive, ugly

-effective in reducing bird strikes substantially

-you see out the window with small reduction in light, but can’t see in window at all

- expensive, http://4bierte.com/collidescape/order_form.html

Bird Screens: Bad Option -> expensive

- Also effective because they both block reflections and slow down bird enough it doesn’t hurt it
even if it does fly into window
- Expensive
- Easily removed, not directly applied to window
- Expensive

BEST OPTION: closing blinds

-horizontal at least a quarter inch thick are found to be effective -> blinds down and slightly
slanted

-most windows around the office have blinds closed when I walked around

-closing blinds seems to best/easiest/cheapest/most effective office
