July Flood

Summertime Flood

The July floods were one of the four young neighborhood girls' favorite summertime

severe weather results. An “old” tradition these four girls had after every July severe storm was

to play around in the great amounts of waters in their own yards. they had been doing it for the

past 3 years, only this year the girls were a little older and a little more adventurous. Usually it

was more or less harmless as they would simply go to the dirt ditches that were created during

construction on two of the girls’ parents land, but since the construction finished and the barn

was put up they decided to venture a bit farther, just about an acre away from their house by the

creek that runs behind their two houses.

May and Jaden, who were both sisters, and Stephanie and Danielle, who were also

sisters, watched as the final drop of rain fell from the sky and immediately asked their parents if

they could go outside and play with the neighbors. Of course, the parents always said okay, and

as if they all knew and had called each other, they met up at the same spot right in between

both of their houses. They all smiled at each other with joy and excitement as they all had no

doubt as to what they were going to do after this massive rain storm. Not one other thought

crossed their mind as Stephanie asked if they wanted to play in the mass bunches of

overflowing water that was resting still. In accordance all the girls agreed, they all ran fully

dressed in their clean day clothes, knowing full well their parents would get mad at them for

getting them all dirty, but they didn’t care. Only this time without the muddy ditch, they weren’t

getting as dirty as they had wanted too, their mud pie competition was gone and simply not

throwing dirt at each other didn’t satisfy their lust for amusement nearly enough. The girls
jumped from massive puddle to puddle, until they got to the creek which was flowing way past

the usual foot and a half depth. Immediately the girls ran towards it. The current of the creek

was strong enough to push the young girls downstream as long as they lifted their feet off the

ground. They rode the current downstream for about 30 feet 'till they hit a patch of dirt and

overgrown grass where the stream turned into a different direction. There was a bridge right

beyond the patch of dirt where the water was especially deep.

“Hey guys, come here!” Jaden said. As she walked on top of the bridge and jumped

straight into the deep creek and then climbed up from the other side of the bridge as the current

carried her under. “You guys have got to try it! This is so fun.”

“Oo, I want to try!” Danielle said as she ran to the top of the bridge. Danielle, being a bit

shorter than Jaden, still managed to grab on to the bridge above her but definitely had a more

difficult time getting up, and asked Jaden for some help. “Maybe before May and Steph go

someone should stay up here to help them up since they are younger.”

Soon all the girls were jumping and climbing back up, and then decided to go back to the

start and follow the creek down to the and try and grab on to the front side of the bridge as an

extra challenge.

“HELP!” May yelled as everyone heard splashing in the water. She was in front of

everyone else and missed the first point to get up on the bridge. The deep water and the current

started flushing her down and she began to panic after missing the point to get up on the bridge.

All the girls quickly got out as soon as they could and reached down from the bridge to try and

help her up.

“I don’t think we should go all the way to the bridge anymore. It's dangerous. We should

just stop this part,” Jaden said as she walked to the dirt patch where they got out at the

beginning.

“...Yeah.. I agree,” said Danielle.

The girls went back and only followed the current to the dirt patch.

“OW!” Jaden yelled and started to cry.

Muddy Sunlight

The sun turned brown, as it set a translucent dark brownish-greenish hue over

everything, and the air became sticky, as if the brown sun had dispersed tiny mud molecules

that could attach to the oxygen in the air making it hard to breath. The creek turned into an

aggressive river like white water rapids, only there was nothing white about the water. It

transformed from a clear creek to a raging current filled with foggy, dirty, thick water. All the

houses, roads, paths, and clear fields were gone, like it might have looked before people lived in

the land.

Jaden was bleeding pretty bad on her foot. The girls managed to grab a branch that had

fallen over into the river and climbed out. May and Danielle got out first and helped Jaden out as

her tears started to dry up as from the immense shock and terror they felt from the new

environment around them. Stephanie climbed as she latched on to Jaden.

Danielle, Stephanie, and May took a second to relax and catch their breath in the thick

air, while Jaden moved off to the side a bit further from the girls staring at her foot that was

gushing blood. The pain came back to Jaden as she relaxed and started crying again.
Danielle, being the second oldest, walks over to Jaden, “What happened? Are you

okay?”

Jaden, crying, says, “Dani, I need to go home. I think I scraped my foot on something,”

as she tries to wipe away the mass amounts of blood streaming from her foot.

“Okay do you need help?” Danielle asks, as she is trying to help Jaden up and looks

around. “I don’t know where we are…”

Deadly CandyLand

May had luckily been wearing sneakers and took off her socks where Dani had tied one

of them around the middle of Jaden's foot to act like a bandaid. Jaden leaned on Dani’s and

May’s shoulders as they all started to walk upstream in hopes of finding their way back and

home. They soon realized that they weren’t anywhere where they had been or seen before.

There were cherry trees with the candy gummy cherries instead of regular cherries. The grass

was not as sharp as grass traditionally is, it was squishier, the wood of the tall walnut trees were

made of sugary, hard candies with sharp points at the end of the branches. They found that they

were in a candyland, but it was dark and drab with dull colors like they were in a haunted forest

with many weird unknown sounds.

May and Stephanie start hysterically crying and collapse on the ground, they were

scared and didn't know what to do or where they were. Dani was on the verge of crying too, but

she had high pride in herself for trying to keep her sister safe and held back the tears to try and

help them feel better. Jaden, still in a great amount of pain, is only focused on herself to get

back home and get help.

“Jaden, let's sit down for a second. Imma talk to May and Stephanie.” Jaden nods in agreement

as she is unable to talk. May and Stephanie are screaming that they want to go back home.

“Guys, we will get back home, we just need to keep walking until we see something familiar like

that bridge. Also, look, we have to help Jaden. She is in a lot of pain and the sock is all red from

the blood. We have to find some water or something to wash it off.” May started to calm down

while Stephanie kept hysterically crying. Dani puts her hand on Stephanie’s shoulder,

“Stephanie calm down for a second. I’m here.” Dani keeps talking to her younger sister, and

suddenly the crying stops and eyes get very wide. “What?” Dani asks.

Stephanie points behind Dani, “Behind you.” Dani turns around and sees a pack of angry

coyotes and one massive crow with swarms of blue and black bees buzzing in and out of the

crow’s feathers.

Clear Spring

The girls all scream and run towards Jaden, and help her up. Suddenly, they get a spurt

of intense strength and power and are able to support Jaden into moving a bit quicker. The

coyotes and crow chase the screaming girls. As these aggressive candyland creatures catch up

to them.

“Look there! The Bridge!” May points upstream at the little wooden bridge hidden behind

a few trees in the distance.

The girls try to run a bit faster. They can see the bridge in the distance, but Jaden isn't

able to keep up and trips and falls. The girls stop and scream, “COME ON JADEN CAN YOU

GET UP?!” she looks up and as the girls run back to help her up. There was a moment of

silence as the run back to help her get up. As the girls were helping Jaden up during the

moment of silence the coyotes and the crow stopped, and looked around in confusion, as if they

did not know where the girls went.

“They must be blind.” May whispered. Even though she was the youngest she was also

one of the smartest. “They must’ve found us from when we were crying. We should try not to

make much noise. C'mon, let's go to the bridge.”

The girls, supporting Jaden, all walk towards the bridge and nearly collapse when they

arrive.

“Guys, I still don't see the houses.” Stephanie said, getting sad.

“Well let's first help Jaden. Look, there is actual clear clean water over there on the other

side of the river. Lets clean off her cut.” Dani said.

The girls walked to the clean spring to wash off Jaden’s cut.

“Wow, this is pretty deep. I think you need to go to the doctors.” Dani says to Jaden.

Jaden takes a deep breath of relief, “The water is cold, it feels so good!” Stephanie and

May are taking sips of the water “Hey, you said something you must be feeling better!”
“Guys do u think its a good idea to drink this random water?” Dani says to May and

Stephanie.

“But it tastes so GOOOOOOD, I was sooo thirsty, it's so hot and we were running a lot,”

Stephanie responds. Dani drinks some of the water too and so does Jaden.

“Hey guys the muddy sun is going away!” Stephanie says as she admires the clear sky.
