Free meal distribution during NYC
Public School shutdown moved to
morning hours
During the closure of NYC Public Schools, the NYC Department of Education
changed the hours for Grab-N-Go breakfast and lunch distributions, including
the Kosher distribution in Williamsburg, to the morning hours. The distribution
will take place at school and other community locations across the
city, between 9:00 am and noon, every day Mon-Fri. No identification or
registration is necessary.

Kosher meals are available at selected sites. In Williamsburg, the select

location for kosher meals is P.S. 16 - 157 Wilson Street, 11211. (Please
note that this is currently the only Kosher distribution location in
Williamsburg.)

Kosher meals follow the USDA meal nutrition guidelines and are produced in
partnership with a certified kosher distributor, with the Volover Hashgacha.

There will be no food service available on the following dates, November 26th,
December 25th, and January 1st. Instead, there will be food service available
on the following dates from 3pm to 5pm. November 27th, December 24th, and
December 28th-31st.

Erev Shabbos gas shut-off cancelled
Last Thursday afterhours, the UJO was alerted to posters from National Grid
informing the community that a gas line would be shut off, come Friday at noon
time, for legally mandated upgrades. The gas would be restored after Shabbos
starts.

UJO immediately reached out to Mr. Lincoln Restler, a devoted advocate for the
community needs, to intervene to postpone the gas shutoff on Friday, when
families must have gas to prepare the Shabbos meals etc.

Executives at National Grid quickly acquiesced and rescheduled the gas line
work to accommodate the Williamsburg community, to the heartfelt appreciation
of happy families in the area.

UJO thanks National Grid for their accommodation, and Mr. Restler for his
readiness to intervene for the area's needs.

UJO participates in community NYC

Flu summit
UJO was privileged to participate in an all-hands-on-deck community
Flu summit conference, to tackle timely preventative measures amidst the
annual Flu season.

This year’s flu vaccine could be the most important one people ever get. To
support NYC's reopening, all communities were called upon to participate and
help make sure every New Yorker gets vaccinated.

At the event, yesterday November 18, attending community representatives

listened keenly and discussed with NYC Health Department leadership
important details regarding the Flu and proven methods to help keep
communities safe and healthy.

Gov. Cuomo rolls out new interactive
benefits system
Governor Andrew Cuomo won broad praise for a new application to help
struggling New Yorkers locate benefits to assist them during their time of need.
Developed through a public-private partnership with Big Tech, the user-friendly
social services discovery application will help individuals who are either new to
or unfamiliar with the state's social programs network.

The "Find Services" web application provides an easy-to-use starting point for
first-time users of social programs. The web application prompts each user with
a series of simple questions aimed at narrowing the field of possible services to
those that are best designed to serve their needs. After answering the
questions, the user is provided with a ranked list of potential services along with
a description to help residents judge if the service is right for them and provide
them with more information about how to apply.

"COVID-19 has caused unprecedented demand for social services in New

York, including families and individuals who have never relied on social
programs before," Governor Cuomo said. This new application, he added, "will
provide New Yorkers with a user-friendly, stigma-free resource to get the
assistance and relief they need."
