Philip of Macedon: king of Macedon, from 359 BC until 336 BC, and the
father of Alexander.
Olympias: princess of Epirus, fourth wife to Philip of Macedon and the
mother of Alexander.
Aristotle: Greek philosopher and tutor to Alexander III in his early life.
Hephaestion: Macedonian nobleman, general in Alexander’s army and his
own personal bodyguard.
Roxana: Bactrian princess and wife of Alexander the Great.
Alexander IV: son of Alexander III and Princess Roxana. For a short
amount of time, he was King of Macedon after his father’s death.
Ptolemy: intimate friend and one of Alexander’s most trusted generals, who
became ruler of Egypt and founder of both the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the
Ptolemaic Dynasty.
