In the following essay, some of the most important persons throughout the
life of Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, will be
described and what was their connection to him.

 Philip of Macedon: king of Macedon, from 359 BC until 336 BC, and the
father of Alexander.
 Olympias: princess of Epirus, fourth wife to Philip of Macedon and the
mother of Alexander.
 Aristotle: Greek philosopher and tutor to Alexander III in his early life.
 Hephaestion: Macedonian nobleman, general in Alexander’s army and his
own personal bodyguard.
 Roxana: Bactrian princess and wife of Alexander the Great.
 Alexander IV: son of Alexander III and Princess Roxana. For a short
amount of time, he was King of Macedon after his father’s death.
 Ptolemy: intimate friend and one of Alexander’s most trusted generals, who
became ruler of Egypt and founder of both the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the
Ptolemaic Dynasty.
