In this subject Understanding People and Organisation, I took The Laureate Professional
Assessment (LPA) and according to this study “It is designed based on workplace skills
competency” which has helped me to identify the areas of my strength and ability that is needed
to succeed in the workplace.
There are five workplace competencies which are working well with others, analysing and
solving the problem, learning and self-development achieving objectives, and adapting to
change. My results from the Laureate Professional Assessment were very low as per shown
below and I do not agree with these results.

The reason is that almost all the competencies from the assessment is related to the workplace
which I do have these experiences and skills. Therefore, I believe that my scores would have
been higher and not as per the results. In this essay, I will mention two competencies which I
think I have and still develop every day which are learning and self-development and
adapting to change. From what I have learnt and researched, Learning and self-development
is the process of actively working to improve my personal skills as well as recognising the need
to develop my potential which helps me achieve not only my short term but also my long-term
goals within my current profession and the future and adapting to change is the process of
adjusting work style and interpersonal behaviours to fit various situations within the workplace
or outside of the workplace.

How I can help myself to develop my skills is to focus on variety of ways such as undertaking
a project in the workplace, performing in a role even for a short time while a staff member is
on leave or taking part in leading a program in the workplace. By doing this it will help to
broad my skills to successfully undertake any opportunities and to use my skills in a future.
Learning provides opportunities for my personal and career development and to perform at a
higher level.
Furthermore, the “VUCA World” which means the world is full of opportunities and
challengers. VUCA means Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity. It was an idea
introduced by U.S. Army War College. (Innovation People 2013). Leah Shmerling the author
of the book “Work Skills and employability” mentioned that employers look for a mixture of
personal, employability and technical skills in any person who is applying for a job. Therefore,
it is important to obtain these. I aim to gain more knowledge out of this study and will continue
to apply the technical skills and soft skills that I must perform effectively in the workplace.
Some of the personal skills I believe I have are Honesty, integrity, working under pressure,
loyalty, trustworthy and I can go on but the bottom line is all this are very important to use in
the workplace and having this abilities adds more weight.

To conclude, this module has helped me to understand the different levels of competencies
which I have discovered and has taught me how I can continue use these skills and
knowledge and excel within my professional career. The concept of the VUCA world was
another important concept which is currently used in the world today. Lastly, having
completed the Laureate Professional Assessment (LPA) I am now able to understand and
enhanced more my current levels of skills to helped me identify where I may have some
breaches to close. I look forward to implementing all my strengths identified into my work
and making a difference every day.
