"Looking back: Radio in the Past;Looking Forward: The Future of Community Broadcasting"

After reading and watching the topic given by our teacher, it is all about the brief history of
community broadcasting in the Philippines, it shows where/how the radio came from or how it
is created or started. Based on the quotation that give in the presentation " If you don't know
history, you don't know anything" by Michael Crichton. First, why we should study the History
of community broadcasting, because it help us to understand or identify the development
status in the future. It also helps us to Build knowledge and understanding of historical events
and trends, especially over the past century, enables us to develop a much greater appreciation
for current events today. After watching the presentation, I've realized what are the impact and
importance of radio especially in the past. Before the Youtube,Spotify, etc. invented, first we
have a radio, radio before is one of the best communication tools for the rural poor, it helps to
people to access a new information. It has touched the lives of every Filipinos especially in rural
places/areas. I grew up in the baryo, I still remembered when I was 6+ years old when my
grandmother and grandfather go to the farm they always brought the radio and while they
doing the work in their field they also listening to the radio. I’d noticed that radio they
entertained many people, and I can see in their faces that even they are tired on spending time
to their work, they still have time to listen to radio, radio help people as you can see the
happiness and entertainment on their face, while listening to the radio. Because radio is not
only for entertainment. It gives an information on what is happening in the environment, help
other people like in the example of Ma'am Vallejo this Aling Cely has a eye infection which need
immediate operation by the power of radio broadcasting she makes a appeal to ask a help to
good Samaritan. Also radio has a important role in keeping the Filipinos spirit alive during
WW2.This are some of example on how Radio is powerful.

According to Tuazon and Robles,2007 "Radio today is more than just media channel to many
Filipinos;it is a way of life" it means radio is part of Filipinos culture. We can't erase the facts
before the youtube, spotify, etc came their a radio has touch the heart of every Filipinos. Radio
will remain the fastest disseminate of information from one place to another.
