Question 1: What do you think of the “justice system” depicted in the video? Is justice really
being served?

In the music video a wrestling match between prisoners and professional wrestlers
were being conducted wherein those prisoners who are able to beat the professionals will
be pardoned of their charges. I believe that this form of justice is not acceptable in the
modern times due to the formation of Human Rights for each individual. This does not give
justice to the crimes committed no matter how heavy the allegations were against those
convicted. Let’s say those prisoners charged were found to be not guilty after post
investigations, how will the judiciary answer to those injustices? However, during the olden
times, this form of punishment was used to be able to know who was innocent and who
should be imprisoned whenever there were two or more suspects involved in a crime.
Nowadays, due to the existence of due process of law, we no longer have to conform to
those primitive measures of finding justice and instead conduct trials and investigations
which I believe is the way to go.

Question 2: What is your opinion on having a.) punitive system b.) reformative system?

To administer justice is an essential function of the state and it is the duty of the state
to provide a peaceful environment to its people. Based on my research, punitive justice
system seeks to punish someone for breaking a law, rather than looking at the reason why
it was done. The reformative system on the other hand, emphasizes on reformation of
offenders and is based on the humanistic principle that even if an offender commits a crime,
he does not cease to be a human being. When a crime is committed, it is important to know
the root of why it happened and how to prevent it from happening. The same goes for how
punishment should be given which is why the reformative system works better not only for
our judicial system but also for other nations as well. The aim of the reformative system is to
try to bring about a change in the personality and character of the offender, so as to make
him a useful member of society. I believe that each criminal, when incarcerated, should be
given rehabilitation since after all, we are all rational beings able to differentiate right from
wrong. A person commits a crime either because the temptation of the motive is stronger or
because the restrain imposed by character is weaker. Reformation should be given with
special regards to character strengthening so as to give chances for criminals who want to
start anew and be an effective member of society.

Question 3: Do a research and be able to give and discuss five (5) methods of carrying out
the death penalty next meeting.
Despite campaigns calling for an end to capital punishment, executions are still
carried out around the world. in 2013, 22 countries executed people, according to Amnesty
International. Popular methods over time include:
Mazzatello
Named after the implement used in the execution, usually a mallet, this method of
capital punishment was popular in the papal states during the 18th century. The condemned
would be led to a scaffold in a public square with nothing more than the executioner and a
coffin. The executioner would then raise the mallet and bring it down on the head of the
victim. Because this would typically only lead to them being stunned their throat was usually
slit right after.
Firing squad
Firing squad is the preferred method of execution in Indonesia. Twelve armed
executioners shoot the prisoner in the chest. If the prisoner is still not dead, the commander
then issues a final bullet to the head. Some countries that carried out executions by firing
squad include China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Taiwan and Yemen.

The Electric Chair

In execution by electric chair, the prisoner is strapped to the chair with metal straps
and a wet sponge is placed in his head to aid conductivity. Electrodes are placed on the
head and leg to create a closed circuit. Depending on the physical state of the prisoner, two
currents of varying level and duration are applied. The chair was first adopted in 1889 and
the first execution took place in 1890 in New York.

Guillotine
The device itself is a large timber frame with a space at the bottom for the neck of the
prisoner. At the top of the machine is a large angled blade. Once the prisoner is secured,
the blade is dropped, severing the head and bringing about immediate death.
It was the official method of execution in France until the death penalty was outlawed in
1981 and is no longer used anywhere in the world.

Garrote
The garrote is a device that strangles a person to death. It can also be used to break a
person’s neck. The device was used in Spain until it was outlawed in 1978 with the abolition
of the death penalty. It normally consisted of a seat in which the prisoner was restrained
while the executioner tightened a metal band around his neck until he died
