Present Simple

We use simple present for talking about routines,


daily habits or repeated.
Part 1: I, you, we and they.
Affirmative Sentence:
They go to the park on Saturdays.
They : subject
go : action verb in base form
to the park on Saturdays. : complement
Question:
Do: auxiliary for questions and negative sentences.
Do is used with I, you, we and they.
Do they go to the park on Saturdays?
 Do : auxiliary
 they : subject
 go : action verb
 to the park on Saturdays: complement
 ?: question mark
Yes, they do / No, they do not (don’t)
Negative sentence
They do not (don’t) go to the park on Saturdays.
They : subject
do not (don’t) : auxiliary + not
go : action verb in base form
to the park on Saturdays. : complement
Part II: he, she and it.
Affirmative Sentence:
He goes to the park on weekends
He : subject
goes : action verb + s
to the park on weekends: complement

Remember: we add “S” at the end of the verb in third


person sentences (he, she and it) just in affirmative
sentences.

Verbs ended o, ch, sh + es:
 Go: goes
 Watch: watches
 Wash: washes
Verbs ended with x : add es:
Mix: mixes
Fix: fixes
Verbs ended with “y” (after a consonant) : add IES.
Example: Study: studies /fly : flies.
