Heli-skiing is off-trail, downhill skiing reached by helicopter, instead of a ski lift.


While the heli skiing’s origin remains unknown, Hans Gmoser was credited with revitalizing
heli-skiing in 1965 in British Columbia. In previous years, taking a helicopter to remote
mountaintops for the chance to ski untracked powder runs was view like an extreme activity.
Nowadays heli-skiing has become a socially acceptable way of entertainment. Heli-skiing is
considered a thrilling sport even the fact that it has both pros and cons.

Firstly, heli-skiing is practiced on remote slopes and the tourist are taken to the
destination by a helicopter that gives you the opportunity to observe breakthinking views.
The helicopter jump increases your level of adrenaline. Heli-skiing is considered to be safer
when practiced in groups, not only because there is someone around in case of emergency, as
some slopes can be very far from help, but also because it gives you the chance to stop to
worrying about what could go wrong and start enjoying yourself. The crew’s job it’s to make
make sure that the slopes are not covered with soft snow so the accident could be avoided.
Besides there will be no risk of avalanches and also it is slightly safer than standard skiing.

Secondly, the distance between the medical staff and the top of the mountain can
causes issues because it is difficult to receive help on time. The main disadvantage includes
the high price of the helicopter ticket and equipment as well because the potential of suffering
a fracture or something not as serious can be high, the most of the investment should be put
in the high-quality equipment in order to lower the chance. Also, unpredictable weather can
influence people’s good times without letting them enjoy themselves. Furthermore, the
environment and the endangered animals in those areas may be suffering from the
deforestation made in order to build new helicopter slopes. People should taking in
consideration the health problem which can be provided by practicing this sport or by
jumping out of the helicopter. Another thing to keep in mind is that in various countries this
sport has been banned due to numerous accident.

Therefore heli-skiing presents both advantages and disadvantages for the environment
and people’s health, as well, but it can be enjoyable and it can also gives you an extreme
sensations.
