CONCEPTUALIZATION BEFORE WORKING WITH MULTICARRIER SYSTEMS

i) Briefly explain the following definitions putting a valid reference in the field of knowledge:

1. Baseband Signal
2. Passband Signal
3. Message Signal
4. Carrier Signal
5. Modulation
6. Demodulation

ii) Explain the blocks in the architecture of a Software Defined Radio. I suggest use the
following sources of devices referred as Universal Software Radio Peripherical (USRP), Ettus
with the USRP N210 and the Adalm Pluto.

iii) Using Matlab generate a script that takes a signal voice captured with the microphone of
your PC or laptop, and modulate it at baseband and passband at a frequency carrier on X0
MHz, with X being the last digit on your id. Use plots to shown the signal in time domain and
the pwelch function (explore periodogram) to observe the spectrum at baseband and
passband.

iv) Explain the pro and cons of an OFDM signal.
