Despite some of the best talent, India’s global healthcare ranking slipped to 150 in 2019.
India is a country of billions of people with the population spread across rural, semi-urban
and urban landscape. There are a lot of gaps in how these populations receive primary care
or secondary care across a gamut of diseases. The need is to not only think about
healthcare as diagnosis and beyond but also change the paradigm to ponder on preventive
measures.

The advancement in technology and healthcare should go hand in hand to bene t the most
and prepare for the unexpected. ZS PRIZE is focused on this very idea and aims to shape
the future of health and healthcare in India by creating innovative and transformative
solutions leveraging data, analytics and technology.

In round 1, participants are expected to submit a proposal focused on creating an

innovative, tech-enabled and novel healthcare solution.

While submitting the ideas, the candidates should consider a few aspects:
1. Identify a health and healthcare issue: There are many challenges currently relevant
to the Healthcare system in India. Some of them have been mentioned below. You can
choose any of them or focus on any of the other relevant issues.

Stakeholders: Patients, Hospitals, Government
Why this issue? As healthcare gets digitized in the Indian context and with millions Need Help? Submit
of digital health records being produced every day in places like public health centers
and hospitals, concerns around data privacy are coming up. In the latest data leak
related to users in India, over a million medical records and 121 Mn medical images
of Indian patients, including X-rays and scans, have been leaked online to be freely
accessible by anyone. Given the importance and the possibility of data being used for
surveillance or corporate interests, it is critical to establish a robust and sensitive
data governance structure among the various stakeholders.

2. Healthcare Issue: Access in Rural Areas

Problem Statement: Tackle the urban rural divide by helping patients get doctor
consultations virtually through apps or web-based videos, chats and voice guidance.
Healthcare Stakeholders: Patients and Physicians
Why this issue? India has a signi cant shortage of trained physicians nationwide
when compared to the WHO recommended ratio. Additionally, with about 80 percent
of the medical workforce concentrated in top 8-10 cities and serving only 28 percent
of the total population, access to healthcare still remains an aspiration for many. In
rural India, a patient may have to travel even about 122 kms to meet a doctor. The
need of the hour is to provide good quality healthcare access to the rural population

3. The In-depth Plan (The How) – 35%

The completeness of the development plan
