Michigan Dining Student Hiring Manager

Are you a University of Michigan student looking to get paid to expand your knowledge and
skills in business administration? Are you able to come up with innovative perspectives to help
assess and solve difficult problems? Do you thrive in an autonomous environment that allows
you to create and execute your own projects? Are you an experienced public speaker? If you
answer yes to all of these questions, you could be the next Student Hiring Manager for the
Michigan Dining Training Team! 

The Michigan Dining Training Team is looking for two Michigan students to fill the role of
Student Hiring Manager to start in the Winter 2021 semester. No prior experience in business
administration is required, however we are looking for students who work or have worked for
Michigan Dining. As a Student Hiring Manager, you will be responsible for the onboarding
processes of new student employees, creating and presenting training for student managers and
coordinators, and developing your own projects to improve aspects of Michigan Dining that
interest you.  This will be a hybrid position, so you will be expected to primarily be working
from home, but you will also need to be able to work in person on some occasions. As no
previous experience is required, you will be thoroughly trained on how to complete all tasks
expected of you.

Specific Areas of Responsibility include:

Onboarding procedures. Use Google Excel to change the status of new student hires to reflect
their current standing in the hiring process. Add students to their respective Canvas course.
Facilitate 30-minute orientation sessions twice a week via Zoom. 

Training. Work with other members in the training team to develop annual training for Michigan
Dining student manager and coordinators working in the dining halls and markets across campus.
Present the training created during in-person training sessions held once a semester. Put the
training material into Canvas to make it accessible to students in an engaging online format.
Additionally, work on Canvas to update, improve, and reconstruct already existing online
training for returning student employees. 

Project development. Each semester, address areas in Michigan Dining that need improvement
and create an improvement plan. Work with team members and other dining faculty members to
construct and execute your plan. You may also be responsible for helping other team members
with their projects and taking on the management of already existing projects. 

Required Qualifications:
 University of Michigan Student (undergraduate or graduate)
 Able to work 15-20 hours per week
 Strong public speaking skills
 Works well in a team environment with peers and professionals 
 Creative thinker with an aptitude for problem solving
 Strong work history 

Desired Qualifications: 
 Current or previous Michigan Dining student employee
 Prior internship in business administration
 Proficient with Google Suites or other similar collaborative platforms
