HW420 Creating wellness – Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Healing

CREATING WELLNESS 2

Assignment

1. What does spirituality mean to you?

Asking this question would help me get a better understanding of what they think when

they hear spirituality. Spirituality includes your spiritual practices or spiritual disciplines, which

may include prayer, meditation, chanting, breathing exercises and ceremonies or rituals.

(LaMeaux, n.d.) After I get the answer to this question it might be easier to ask follow up

questions that are based on what the individual said.

2. Have you or do you practice anything for your psychological or spiritual health?

If the person has or does already practice something, then we can think of ways to

enhance their experience or change it if it is not working for them. It is important to establish a

baseline of what they have tried already and how it worked for them.

3. How do you currently feel psychologically and spiritually?

It is important for them to not only focus on their spiritual side, but also their

psychological side. How they feel mentally will get a better understanding of how they feel about

themselves and maybe what areas need extra attention and help?

4. What do you think will help you connect to your soul and spiritual side?

Asking this question gives the opportunity for them to reflect on what will benefit them.

It will help the provider in seeing what they believe is beneficial vs what the provider will feel

will benefit them.

5. What are your values?

Many people find spirituality through religion. Some people find it through music, art, or

a connection with nature. Others find it in their values and principles. (Family doctor, 2004)

Values help define what is important to them and what they currently have or is searching for.

6. Do you think are optimistic or pessimistic?

Being optimistic can improve your quality of life in numerous ways. It can play a part in

whether stress levels are elevated. It is always important to keep stress levels low because it can

cause or exacerbate many serious health problems, including: Mental health problems, such as

depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease,

high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks, and stroke. (WebMD, n.d.) This will

not only give an idea of their mental well-being, but their physical as well. It is important to be

honest as many people like to think of themselves as optimistic, but in reality, are negative.

7. Do you love yourself? Elaborate on how and why you love yourself?

Self-love is so important. If you do not love yourself then you have to build yourself up

to be able to love yourself. There might be reasons in your mind on why you are not lovable and

your soul needs to be able to heal to move on from that. There are so many different types of

ways to increase your abilities to love yourself and others.

8. When you are feeling down or need help, who or what do you turn to?

Feeling down or needing help is a very vulnerable thing to some people. Who they turn

to, reflects on how they cope and with who they cope. Some people have a hard time accepting

help and instead, try to do it all themselves or deny it. Without allowing ourselves to be

vulnerable we can’t experience the joy and rapture of life, we can’t be our authentic selves and

we can’t be human, because to be human is to be imperfect. (Luna, 2019)

9. Do you feel like you have enough time in your day to work on your spiritual and

physiological health?

Most peoples life style is very fast paced and doesn’t always seem to have time to spare.

They think working their mind and spirits might be time consuming, but with the different ways

to mediate and practice spirituality there are quick or long practices. It will help narrow down

different ways for the client to practice depending on how they want to fit it into their schedule.

10. Out of all these different types of ways to benefit your spiritual health, which one do

you think works best for you and why? Mediation, prayer, self-love, gratitude practice,

journaling, breathing exercises, visualizations, or any other way you can think of.

These are just a few of many different types of way to benefit your spirit and mental

health. Giving the opportunity to choose which one would the client choose. They need to feel

comfortable and in-tune with their body and mind to really benefit. If parties can open up to one

another and to new ways of thinking, they are more likely to find satisfaction from

mediation. (Coke, 2015) If they aren’t open minded to a concept, they might not get the full

benefit. They can start off with something they are comfortable with and work their way up to

something more mentally important like reiki or other practices that are a transfer of energy.

Interviewers Answers

1. What does spirituality mean to you?

Being one with yourself and your surroundings.

2. Have you or do you practice anything for your psychological or spiritual health?

I like listening to music in the night time or in the car. I find it calming. I have never

meditated or attempted yoga.

3. How do you currently feel psychologically and spiritually?

I feel great. I do no think there is anything hindering my wellness.

4. What do you think will help you connect to your soul and spiritual side?

Music can make you feel certain ways. Music can express things and say things that you

don’t necessarily know how to say yourself.

5. What are your values?

Trust, kindness, and love

6. Do you think are optimistic or pessimistic? Why?

Optimistic. I have always been able to look at the bright side of things and dwell on

negative things that I can’t really control.

7. Do you love yourself? Elaborate on how and why you love yourself?

Yes. I like the person that I am and am becoming. I have a great family, successful, and a

beautiful wife. I love myself by working out, eating healthy, going to school, always trying to

learn new things. I try to impart that knowledge to other people.

8. When you are feeling down or need help, who or what do you turn to?

My family and/or wife.

9. Do you feel like you have enough time in your day to work on your spiritual and

physiological health?
CREATING WELLNESS 6

Yes, I just have to make it a priority.

10. Out of all these different types of ways to benefit your spiritual health, which one do

you think works best for you and why? Mediation, prayer, self-love, gratitude practice,

journaling, breathing exercises, visualizations, or any other way you can think of.

Music therapy and exercise. I love the way I feel after I work out.

After completing this interview, it is clear that this individual loves music and exercise. A

simple spiritual and psychological health development plan can be used with this information.

They seem to be a very compassionate person. A great mind-body-spirit program can be one that

incorporates music, exercise, and kindness. I feel like visual therapy would benefit this person a

lot as they are very in-tune with their body from what they described. They are already doing a

lot of spiritual healing even though they might not know it.

I feel like the questions I have currently is a great baseline to get more information on the

client so that we can go into further depth later on. In this particular case I could ask what kind of

music he listens to. If it is rock or heavy metal, then maybe visualization wouldn’t be as calming

and relaxing. The question about self-love I feel like was helpful, but I feel like the way he

answered the question on optimistic it would be a good assumption that he loves himself and his

family with the values he also holds. Overall, I think the questions was helpful.
