RELATIONSHIP FOR FAMILY SUPPORT WITH DEMENSIA AT LANSIA IN RT 005 KELURAHAN

KAMPUNG TENGAH KECAMATAN KRAMAT JATI JAKARTA TIMUR ABSTRACT Dementia is
a cognitive decline so severe that it interferes with the activities of daily living and social
activities in the elderly. Cognitive decline in dementia usually begins with memory
deterioration. The factor of ignorance, on the part of the family, regarding the signs and
symptoms of dementia, can cause dementia to often go undetected and slow to be treated.
The research objective was to analyze the relationship between family support and the
incidence of dementia in the elderly in RT 005 Kelurahan Kampung Tengah, Kramat Jati
District, East Jakarta. The research method was descriptive correlation with cross sectional
design. The sample in this study is total sampling with a total of 54 samples. Retrieval of
data using a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques used univariate (%) and bivariate using
chi square (X2) to see the relationship between family support and the incidence of
dementia in the elderly. The results of the research p value Asym Sig. (2-sided) Chi-Square
obtained X2 count = 6,540 X2 table = 5.991 results that the p value is Asym. Sig. (2-sided) =
0.038, this value is smaller than α = 5% (0.05), so H1 is accepted. The conclusion is that
there is a relationship between family support and the incidence of dementia in the elderly in
RT 005 Kelurahan Kampung Tengah, Kramat Jati Subdistrict, East Jakarta, with a sufficient
closeness of 0.038. Researcher's suggestion is to increase good family support in the elderly
to prevent dementia.
