WARNING : The change of a BSI under guarantee is subject to a request for approval
from your Technical Assistance team.
3.1 Introduction
You have implemented procedure G10 (Wipers), sequence S06 corresponding to « Check
on the rear screen wiper function » and you have arrived at stage N° 2.1 in the flow chart.
You will say to your contact : G10 - S06 - 2.1.

5 Functions
Windscreen wipe is commanded electrically by the Engine Relay Unit, directly to the wiper
motor.
Rear screen wipe in slow speed is commanded electrically by the BSI.
Observation :
The Engine Relay Unit has only an actuator role. It is the BSI that gives it the order to
activate screen wipe via the Body CAN network, as a function of the request received from
the switch module under the steering wheel.
After the ignition has been switched off, it is necessary to reactivate the automatic wipe
function each time when restarting.
Page 5 / 18
5.3 Back-up modes of the automatic wipe function
In the event of a problem with at least one of the components of the windscreen wipe
function, a back-up mode is activated :
• If there is a malfunctioning of the switch module under the steering wheel (or of the
FCC steering wheel), the windscreen wipe functions in intermittent wipe,
• If there is a malfunctioning of the Engine Relay Unit, the windscreen wipe functions in
slow speed.
6 Preliminary checks
6.1 Configuration
WARNING : The display of the configuration parameters depends on their presence in the
BSI software.
The parameters featured will be displayed by the diagnostic tool either partially or in totality
according to the software edition in the BSI.
You can access the parameters after starting communication with the BSI using a
diagnostic tool and having selected the menu « MANUAL PROGRAMMING » then
« CONFIGURATION » then « LIGHTING – SIGNALLING – VISIBILITY - REAR VIEW
MIRRORS ».

6.2 [G10][S00] Preliminary checks on the BSI
Stage 1
Identification of a BSI in back-up mode:
- First case: When the ignition is switched on and the lighting stalk is in position
0, the vehicle’s sidelamps (front or rear or both) come on.
- Second case: With the engine running, the dipped beam headlamps come on,
the windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe or in slow speed.
Stage 2
Does the BSI show symptoms of being in back-up No
mode?
Stage 3
Yes

procedure
Stage 4
Check the fuses, the supplies of the BSI – repair if
necessary
Stage 5
Using a diagnostic tool,
start communication with the BSI, select the menu

tool and the diagnostic socket, the
condition of the various connections
and the working of the communication
interface of the diagnostic tool.
If everything is in good condition,
replacement of the BSI is authorised.

Stage 10
1) Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI.
Select the menu « CONFIGURATION» then « Customer
options », configure the parameter « Type of daytime-
running lamps » to « no daytime-running lamps ».
2) Deactivate the daytime-running lamps and automatic
lighting of headlamps, using the personalisation menu
(MENU button on either the steering wheel or the radio).
One of the following conditions is
3) Switch on the ignition (+APC).
not met :
• the front and rear sidelamps
Note the functioning status of the front and rear sidelamps
are on
as well as that of the windscreen wipers.
• the windscreen wipers are
operating on slow speed or
intermittent slow speed.
The front and rear sidelamps are on and the windscreen wipers are
operating on slow speed or intermittent slow speed.
Go to stage 14
Stage 11
Action the hazard lamps button. No
Does the led on the button light up when the button is
actioned ?
Stage 12
The BSI is at fault.
Yes Replacement of the BSI
is authorised
Stage 13
Using a diagnostic tool, start communication
with the Airbag ECU. Yes
Select the menu « Identification »

Stage 14
Switch on the ignition.
Note the functioning status of the front
and rear sidelamps as well as that of the
windscreen wipers.
Stage 14.1
The Engine Relay Unit is at fault. Direct
searches to this ECU.
Stage 16
Switch on the ignition
Yes
Stage 15.2
Direct your searches to the link between the
No switch module under the steering wheel (or
the FCC steering wheel) and the Engine
Relay Unit, as well as to the Engine Relay
Unit itself.
Stage 17.2
Replacement of the BSI WARNING : Configure the parameter « Type
is authorised of daytime-running lamps » in the BSI as it
was originally.

7 Diagnosis of the windscreen wipe function
7.1 [G10][S01] When switched off, the windscreen wipe does not stop in the correct
position
If the windscreen wipe does not stop in a position that is correct, without any other
symptom present on the vehicle : The BSI is not the cause, replacement prohibited.
Direct your searches to the wiper motor, the Engine Relay Unit and the harness between
these two components.
This is the case when the activation seems too slow or too rapid.
Operations to be carried out (without a diagnostic tool) :
• check the functioning of the rain sensor (with water),
• check that the inside of the windscreen is clean,
• check the positioning of the sensor on the windscreen.
Page 11 / 18
7.3 [G10][S03] Other symptoms : diagnosis of the windscreen wipe function (in slow
speed mode and fast speed mode)
After performing the basic checks (fuses, continuity of electrical harnesses), direct your
searches to the following components :
• the switch module under the steering wheel (or FCC steering wheel),
• the Engine Relay Unit.
Page 12 / 18
8 Diagnosis of the rear screen wipe function
Out of the following procedures, carry out the one that corresponds to the symptoms on
the vehicle.
8.1 [G10][S04] When switched off, the rear screen wipe does not stop in the correct
position
If the fixed stop switch incorporated in the rear screen wiper motor and the electrical
cabling are in good condition, the BSI is faulty, its replacement is authorised.
