2 Scope
This specification sets the minimum acceptable requirements for supply of a non-degradable
high visibility detectable warning tape which shall be installed along all primary duct routes.
In case of difference between this specification and the specified international standards then
the most stringent requirements shall prevail.
4 Climatic Data
For this document, the climatic conditions of the Sultanate of Oman shall be taken into account.
The following data provided is for guidance only.
5 Material characterisation
PE warning tapes are made from polyethylene sheet, and are suitable for use in all soil
conditions, The Detectable warning tape contains incorporated aluminium foil so that it can
be detected from ground surface.
• Material - High quality linear low density, Lead free, Virgin grade polyethylene for
toughness and long life.
• Excellent chemical resistance
• Supplied in rolls which are easy to handle and lay
• Elongation: Machine direction - 400%, Transverse direction 500%.
• Soil Tolerance - pH 2.5 - pH 11.0
6 Classification
Material shall be classified as described in BS EN 12613:2009
The warning tape shall be of a high quality, strong with an acid and alkali resistant
polyethylene, tear resistant and resistant to other destructive elements found in the soil. It
shall be free of surface area distortion.
Colour: Yellow
Minimum width: 150 mm
Minimum strength: 150 Kg/sq.cm transversely (longitudinal direction)
Minimum thickness 0.5mm
Metallic conductor: Aluminium foil with minimum width of 130mm
bonded between a layer of PET and a layer of Polyethylene to prevent corrosion.
Minimum thickness of aluminium: 10 microns
Minimum length: 250 m (roll)
Not less than 99.5% purity aluminium foil.
Continuous metallic tracer element.
The foil shall be totally enclosed with polyethylene laminate such that the edges of the foil are
protected against corrosive attack.
The aluminium foil strip shall be detectable from the surface using a buried cable locator. The
manufacturer shall provide methods of joining and terminating the tape to enable a low resistance
connection to be made between sections of tape.
7.1 Marking:
The tape will have the following marking:
10 Quality assurance/control
A copy of manufacturer`s Quality Assurance and Quality Control shall be submitted for review
and approval.
12 Documentation:
The manufacturer shall provide the following vendor data as a minimum.
13 Guarantee
The manufacturer will provide guarantees and warranties and OBC will review prior to
acceptance of the product.
14 Miscellaneous requirements
The supplier will indicate other such similar projects where the product was deployed. This
will ideally detail the telecom environment in which the product was chosen and proven to be
successful.
