The novel Sing to the Dawa, written by Minfong Ho, tells us of the frustrations and prejudice of young Thai village gic, Dawan faces when she wants to further her education in the city. She has early education in the village and then wins a scholarship and has a chance to further schooling in the city. One character in the novel who I think is a good role model for teenagersis her. She is the protagonist in the novel. There are many reasons why I think Dawan is a good role model for teenagers Fisst of all, Dawan is a determined person. She refuses to give up her dream to further her education in the city even when she faces many obstacles. The main obstacle comes fiom her father as he thinks that it is useless for Dawaa to further her study because she is a gitl. But still, Dawan tells her father to not abuse his power and let her go because it is her right to pursue her dream. She does not change her mind even when her cousin, Noi discourages her by telling her the ugly and cruel of the city. She replies with such an admirable determination "I want to see for myself”. Apart from that, Dawan is a good role model for teenagers because she is loving and caring. She loves her brother, Kwai very much even though she does not show it clearly. After she wins the scholarship, she worries about Kwais feelings because he wants the scholarship too. She also concers about Kwai’ feelings and feels his pain when he sacrifices his wish to go to the city for her sake. Once, after the incident that resulted in her left ankles injured, she is worried that Kwai would fall ill sitting in the rain so she gives him her umbrella and headed home in the storm despite him hurting her badly earlier, Last but not least, Dawan is a good role model for teenagers because she is forgiving. Although Kwai has caused her to hurt her ankle, she still forgives him even when she has all the reasons to be mad. at him. Dawan comforts him by saying."It will heal soon,” instead of making he feels guilty. Allin all, Dawan is a good role model for teenagers as she is determined, loving and forgiving. I learnt a lot from her character and she inspired me to become a better person with a good heart. I think she also inspired other teenagers too and would be a good role model for them.
