Based of the novel Sing to the Dawn, written by Minfong Ho, I consider Dawan asa good role model for teenagers. She has several admirable values. Dawan is a mere gitl who wins a scholarship to study in a city. She lives at countryside in Thailand. Her brother, Kwai places secoad in the examination. Kwai is jealous at her sister's success and this causes rift between the close sibling-relationship. In their society, people agrees that boys should further their studies instead of girls who are supposed to cook and raise babies at home. But Dawan disagrees and thinks that girls should be given opportunities to further their studies in a city too. I think Dawan is a good role model for teenagers because she is determined and will siand for her right. Even though, she knows that she will face many obstacles, she will not let this golden opportunity slips away. For example. her father forbids her to further her study and to make it worst, he accuses Dawan snatching her brother, Kwai’s chance. He is so angry and spits out to her, "You took your own brother's chance awav from him!” Even so, it does not break her spisit as she struggles to find ways in persuading her father to give his permissioa. Next, Dawan is hardworking girl. She studies high and low. That is why, she wins a scholarship and has a chance to further study in the city school. Winning the scholarship means she is the best in the village. She succeeds because she is hardworking as Kwai once said, “You always get good marks. and you study harder than I do.” I greatly admire Dawan’s caring and loving attitudes towards her brother, Kwai. She goes to find Kwai with her leit ankle in pain. Then, she gave him her umbrella and headed home in the storm despite him hurting her badly earlier, Dawan does not get mad to her brother for not being supportive and encouraging her. ‘Allin all, there are many good values in Dawan that the writer tried to highlighted to the readers. believe that Dawan is the most suitable character for teenagers to look for as a good role model. She is determined, hardworking, coring and loving.
