ourselves as Filipinos. Furthermore, the works of Rizal teaches nationalism and
patriotism to every Filipino citizen as well as it gives various life lessons and inspiration.

”Impact of Cultural Diversity to Nationalism”

Did you know that Philippines have 51% of increased in diversity? According to the Pew
Research Center, younger adults are more in favour of increasing diversity than older
adults which means that younger sees more opportunity when the scope of diversity
becomes larger around the world.

Nowadays, cultural diversity has been expanded in every nation and it’s not new to
one’s nation. The Philippines is one of the countries who have a cultural diversity and it
is much known to other countries. Since the Spanish era, there have been changes in
the cultures of the Philippines and many of them were adopted until now. One of the
most influential of the Spaniards to the Filipinos is the belief, traditions and languages.
In fact, some places in the Philippines have different languages(estimated 175
languages) and religion is the number one intention of the Spanish colonial and it is
evident because most of the Filipino are Christian specifically Roman Catholic Religion
(more than 86%). In addition, every nation have a history about having a cultural
diversity perhaps if you know about it, it will give you an idea and interest.

There’s not only one culture that exists in one's country but several and the tendency of
having culture diversity, nationalism is affected and there is possibility that the
nationalism is no longer stronger to some people. Indeed, it is very scary if nationalism
is no longer important to the people. But it is not too late to give awareness of how
important nationalism is and there are ways on how to strengthen this but having a
cultural diversity is not a bad thing at all where we can learn from one another.

“Way better for one nation: Nationalism vs. Patriotism”

Nationalism is being devoted to your country and or one nation should act
independently while patriotism is an idea of supporting one’s nation/country and its
culture. By this meaning, which one should be more applicable or good in one nation? Is
it Nationalism or Patriotism? Or both? How can you say so?

Sometimes, people are being confused in nationalism and patriotism. They

thought that the two words have the same meaning but no, they don't. In order to be
familiar with the two words, here are some of the examples: (Nationalism) The
Japanese, during WWII, displayed nationalism. The Japanese elite worked to show their
superiority and try to rule over others. In addition, during Europeans countries’ colonial
expansion. The European tried to push their thoughts and ideologies on other countries,
sometimes by force. (Patriotism) (a) Learning about the pledge of allegiance (b) People
and places significant to our nation’s history (c) Appreciating our diversity (d) giving
respect to the national flag.

Nationalism and Patriotism are both important in one nation and both should
exist. Without these two, it will only cause nothing to people but only unruly governance.
Note that to be a patriotic, you should be nationalistic first.
