The article ‘Role of television for children’ by Seth Mullins draws attention to the
problem about the role of television to children nowadays, in particular, the author
refers to the issues of children that effected by tremendous amount of television
program/show on television right now. This article is a summarize of how a bad or
good television program such as education program can easily influence children
since children tend to be vulnerable to the medium like television.

Seth Mullins started his article by saying that studies have shown that the significant
number of children in the past few decades spend their time more in front of
television compare than in classroom. He continue his article by provide a statement
on the majority of children are spending time watching television without
control/guidance from adult or parent since quarter of children have their own sets of
television in their room. This provide an idea of why children can easily effect by
television program which are related to the amount of time they spend on television.
The first paragraph didn’t show much of research had be done by the author. For
example the author didn’t show the actual statistic amount of children who spend their
time more in front of television compare than in classroom. This can be considered as
speculation of the author rather than actual research founded.

Furthermore, in paragraph two the author had included an example on how violent
television show can impact children’s mind, the way they think and feel about the
world and environment around them. The author also discussed about the role of
television show that provide imagery content to the children that they can neither
respond to nor be given time to think about which is true because children are easily
influence from what they see around them, and most of the time they didn’t think
about the consequence of their own action. As being said by the author, young
children are primarily learned through repetition, imitation and from what they view
around them. The whole content of the second paragraph are well-supported with
strong evidence, the evidence provided prove that if the children keep their routine
with staring at television most of their time, it is not possible that they can copy the
content from what they view through the television.
