Reading the “What is Art” chapter of Robert Stecker’s book made me question my own

definition of art. I find myself agreeing with all the concepts presented by Stecker, but with
reservation, so I think my definition falls under skepticism. Nevertheless, I would slightly modify
my initial definition of art: I would now define art as an emotion that can be either expressed by
the artist or perceived by the audience. It can also be a representation and expression of
objects, circumstances, advocacies, morals, and principles. It does not hold a specific standard
and is not limited to one form. Art also makes our lives more beautiful and meaningful, as it is
embedded in our history, and it reflects our culture.
