If one of the fol lowing conditions exists; (A) engine star failure, (B) unsta- bile idling or (C) poor acceleration, begin by checking the following basic systems : 1. FL-8 FUEL SYSTEM INSPECTION | crercon ‘SERVICE ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES IDLE SPEED Nove Bolo adjusting, chocktha! th spark plugs, injectors, io speed contol actuator (ISG acteto, compres: son ae normal CHECK CONDITIONS * Engine coolant temperature is 80 to 95°C (176 to 205°F). + Lights, electric cooling fan and all accessories are off. * Transaxle is in neutral (*P* or "N* range for AT vehi- cles) * Steering wheel isin a straight forward position (Vehi- cles with power steering). Install a tachometer tothe primary col side or connect, the scan tool to the data link connector. Start and run the engine at curb idle speed. Run the engine for more than § seconds at an engine speed of 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. Then, run the engine at idle for 2 minutes. 4, Read the iding rpm. Idle speed SOHC : 800 * 100 rpm DOHG : 750 + 100 rpm FUEL PUMP OPERATING CHECK 1. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 2. Apply battery voltage to the fuel purnp drive connector to check that the pump operates, Dore The fuel pump is an in-tank type and its operation is hard to hear without removing the fuel tank cap. FUEL PRESSURE TEST 1. Press the two taps under the rear seat and raise the ‘seat, then detach the inspection panel of the fuel pump. GENERAL 2. To reduce the internal pressure of the fuel lines and hoses, firs stat the engine with the fuel pump discon- ‘nected and wait unt it stops by ise. @nore Be sure to reduce the fuel pressure before discon- ‘necting the fuel main pipe and hose, otherwise fuel will spill out. 38. Disconnect the battery negative () terminal and then ‘connect the fuel pump hamess connector. 4. Using the fue! pressure gauge adapter (09353-24000, (09953-24100, 09353-38000), install he fuel-pressure ‘gauge tothe fuel iter. Tighten the bot tothe specified torque. Tightening Torque Fuel pressure gauge to fuel fiter : 25 ~ 35 Nm (250 ~ 350 kgrcm, 18 ~ 26 Ib) 5. Connect the battory’s negative (+) terminal. 6. Apply battery voltage to the terminal for the pump ‘drive and activate the fuel pump. Then, with fuel pres ‘sure applied, check that there is no fuel leak from the Pressure gauge or connections. 7. Start the engine and let it idle. 8. Measure the fuel pressure. It detects the engine coolant temperature and relays signals to the ECM. ttemploys a thermistor which is sensitive to changes in temperature. FL-30 FUEL SYSTEM THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) exccrm ‘The TP Sensor is a rotating type variable resistor that ro- tates with the throttle body's throttle shaft to sense the throttle valve angle. As the throttle shaft rotates, the throt- tle angle of the TP Sensor changes and the ECM detects the throttle valve opening based on the TPS output volt- age.
