Rlemove the front wheel, 2. Detach the brake hose bracket from the strut assem- bly. Do not pry or force the components excessively. 4, Remove the strut lower kunckle mounting bolts(2). 5. Remove the strut assembly. ss-11 DISASSEMBLY ccors 1. Remove the insulator dust cover with a flattip serew driver, 2. Using the Special Tool(J38402), compress the coil spring until there is only a litle tension on the strut. Gnore Do not use an impact gun. 3. Remove the lock-nut at the top end of the shock ab- sorber. 4, Remove the strut insulator, spring seat assembly, coil spring and strut dust cover. INSPECTION caerses 1. Chock the strut insulator bearing for wear or damage, Strut nestor beating Strtinalator 2. Check the rubber parts (Insulator dust cover, Strut in- ‘sulator, Spring seat assembly, Strut dust cover, Spring lower pad) for damage or deterioration. 3. Check the coil spring for sagging and weakness. 4, Reassombly all the parts, and except for the coil spring. SS -12 5, Repeat pushing and pulling the damper assembly as shown. 6 Check for smooth operation through a full stroke. Hf there is no compression or no extension, the gas Is leaking and itis stroughly recommended that the ‘damaper should be replaced. REASSEMBLY 1. Install the spring lower pad with the protrusions fited in the holes of the spring lower seat. 2. Install the strut dust cover on the shock absorber. 8. Using Special Tool(s38402, A-42), compress the coll spring. After the spring is fully compressed, install it on the shock absorber. Install he coil spring with the identification color mark facing toward the knuckle. 4. After fully extending the piston rod, instal the spring ‘seat assembly and the strut insulator, (nore Align the D-shaped hole in the spring seat assembly with the indentation on the piston rod. SUSPENSION SYSTEM 5. After having correctly seated the upper and lower ‘ends of the coll springin the upper and lower spring seat grooves, install the new selt-lockingnut but do ‘ot tighten it. Col sing roms Spring seat 6. Remove the Special Too! (138402, A-42). 7. Tighten the sel-locking nut to the specified torque. Tightening torque {60-70 Nm (600-700 kg'cm, 43-51 Ib-t) 8 Pack grease in the strut insulatior bearing and install the insulator dust cover. & caution Make sure that no grease is on the insulator rub- ber. (refer to ‘LUBRICANTS’, SS-p.3). INSTALLATION Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Standard value 2.5-9 Nm (25.90 kg-om, 1.8-6.6 Ib‘) + If the rotating torque exceeds the upper limit of the standard value, replacethe ball joint assem- is below the lower limit of the standard value, theball joint may be roused, unless it has drag and excessive play. FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM INSTALLATION | eee 1. First, fix the lower arm bush (G) and then bolt up slightly, 2. Itwould be better to insert the driveshaft spline and the ball joint in the knuckle nearly at the same time. 3. Installthe stabilizer lik in the lower arm assembly the moment the driveshaft is inserted gradually. Do not, however, tighten the self-locking nut in this procedure yet. 4, Push the brake disc and hub inward in order to as- semble the lower arm bush (A) to the front chassis. 5. Tighten the lower arm bush (A) bolt. 6. _Tighton the lower arm bush (G) bolt completely which was fixed slightly, 7. After fixing the stabilizer link using 14mm spanner, tighten the self-locking nut. 8. Assemble the washer, the castle nut and the spit pin. 9. Install the wheel and tie. INSTALLATION | ccortoar Install the bush onto the stablizer bar. ‘Align the bracket with the bush. Make sure the projections are securely in the space of the bracket. Using the access opening, temporarily tighten the bush fixtures then positionthe bush on the opposite side, ‘Secure the stabilizer tink with a open-end wrench (14 ‘mm) theninstall the self locking nut. Install the rear roll stopper. Position the projection of the bush in a line as shown in the illustration. 5. Using the Special Too! (09551-25000), press fit the bushing REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM REAR SUSPENSION ARM REAR SUSPENSION ARM (A,B) BUSH REPLACEMENT crs 1. Install the Special Tool(09552-25000) and the sus- pension arm on a press. 2. Press out the bushing. 3. Apply soap solution to the new bushing and suspen- sion arm. 4. Using the Special Too! (09552-25000), press fit the bushing. SS -25 SS -26 SUSPENSION SYSTEM REAR STABILIZER BAR REAR STABILIZER BAR cxsuo 1. Remove the stabilizer bar and link assembly. 2. Use tie chains only on the front wheels. Do not use tire chains on rear wheels. 2. When using snow tires, use them on all four wheels {for manewverabilty andsafety. SUSPENSION SYSTEM TIRES / WHEELS WHEELS FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT ‘When using commercally-available computerized four wheel alignment equipment (caster, camber, te and turn- ing angle) to inspect the front wheel alignment, always position the car on a level surtace with the front wheels facing straight ahead. Prior to inspection, make sure that the front suspension and steering system are in normal ‘operating condition and that the wheels and tires face straight ahead and the tires are inflated to the specified pressure. TOEIN ‘Toe-in (B-A or angle a) is adjusted by turning the tie rod tumbuckles. Toe-in on the left front wheel can be reduced by turning the tie rod toward the of the car.
