Summary of Survey
My survey largely covered the specifics of how each student would want the class to be
run not necessarily in class itself but class norms like communication, icebreakers, or testing and
examinations. What I found was a surprising variety of answers with some being completely
unexpected given the current attitudes of modern students. First, of those surveyed, half the
students wanted traditional examinations, while the others wanted a different form like essays or

element was the lack of desire for an icebreaker, with a preference to move directly into class
content rather than an easier start; a response which directly contradicts the recommendation of
the ASCD in always starting an online class with an icebreaker. The rest of the responses of the
survey fit in line with the original expectations, examples namely including every response
wanting the option to keep the camera off during class, and most wanting a note sheet provided
as a reference for the class. Finally, many of the responses were in keeping with the
recommendations set by the Michigan Virtual Online Guide, such as keeping email professional
