September 29th, Block 2

To begin the class the teacher puts three warm up problems on the board for the students

to complete. All of the students get right to work except the student that I am observing the class

for. This student decides to try and engage other students in conversation and distract them from

their work. After the students ignore this student, this student attempts to try out the three

problems on the board.

To review the three problems the teacher explicitly goes over each step on how to solve

and suggests to the students that they take notes. Most of the students take notes on the warm up

problems.

The student that I am observing the class for does not seem to be interested in the

material and struggles to pay attention.

After the class is over I collaborate with the teacher based on my observation. The

teacher explained that this student is someone who has the capability to do well but chooses not

to and is distracted. This teacher has had this student in the past and said that they have every

opportunity to succeed and do well.

Sometimes this student does very well and is on top of everything and other times they

are not. The teacher repeatedly says to take notes so that they can remember and to refer back to

them when similar questions and problems come up.

When I work with the student on the following day I am going to explain to them that

they need to be taking notes and focus more while in class. This will help them succeed and do

well.
