Classroom Consequences

When confronting conflict with a student, I will ensure that my tone and body language

are welcoming, no matter the circumstance, so that I can help the student feel safe and

comfortable enough to take accountability. I want my students to know and feel like I genuinely

care about them, so when confronting conflict, I will always begin by talking to them individually.

To do so successfully, I want to actively listen and respond empathically with constructive

assertiveness. So, consequences vary depending on the severity of the action. I will always

start with a verbal warning, but if the undesired action continues, then I will implement a

consequence. Consequences can be:

- Changing a students seat either temporarily or permanently

- Lower a students participation points

- Give an after-school or lunch detention

- Have a private meeting with either the student, their parents, or both

- Give the student a referral slip

- Have the student come in during lunch or after school to make-up work

- Send the student to another classroom or ISS

- Take away a privilege such as computer time or a class reward
