Writing to Learn activity

The activity I chose was My Personal History. I think this is an awesome activity that
can connect to my Interdisciplinary Lesson Plan to have the students talk about their
history with graphing and use that topic to make connections with their experiences and
emotions.

Before the students begin, they will make a copy of My Personal History, and save it to
their Google drive folder Project. Then the students will begin thinking about their first
experience graphing, just as they are coming up with their first memories. Then the
students use their Google Doc to freely write about their graphing experiences,
buzzwords that come to mind, and things they want to learn more about. Following this,
the students will save their file and submit it to the class Wakelet. Then, I can use these
submissions to pair students up and have them “peer edit” each other and make
comments and connections to their partners' experiences and ask questions.

This is also beneficial to use as a low stakes activity and will just be used for students to
foster their prior knowledge and help me monitor students progress and knowledge. As
a teacher, I can use the students' submissions to help create new lessons and connect
their learning and questions with their projects.
