Assignment: Circuit Analysis 2 May 8, 2017

Topic: Resonance

1. A capacitor of 30-microfarads is in series w/ a coil across an 750 Hz supply. What inductance is

required for resonance?
2. A coil has a resistance of 50 ohms & a reactance of 100 ohms, is shunted by a capacitor, which
has practically no losses in order that the voltage across the coil be in phase w/ the total current
supplied to the parallel connection. What is the impedance of the parallel combination under
the given condition?
3. What capacitance must be placed in series with an inductance of 0.05 H so that at 100Hz, the
impedance becomes equal to the ohmic resistance?
4. A resistance of 5 ohms is connected in series w/ a capacitor of 442.1 microfarad. The
combination is then connected in parallel w/ an inductance of 21.22 mH. Solve for the frequency
of the supplied voltage w/ which the inductive reactance is equal to the capacitive reactance in
magnitude?
5. A series RLC network has R = 2 k ohms, L = 40 mH, and C = 1 μF. Calculate the impedance at
resonance and at one-fourth, one-half, twice, and four times the resonant frequency.
