MEASUREMENTS : To fit an ayerage-size hand, TENSION : 9 stitches and 10 rows to 1 inch, ABBREVIATIONS : Si(s), stitch(es) ; k, knit; p, purl ; tog, together ; rep, repeat ; rem, remain(s)(ing)(der) ; inc,, increase(ing) ; dec., decrease(ing) ; patt., pattern ; R, ted; W, white. THE RIGHT HAND : Proceed as for the Right Hand of Mitten, until Row 38 of patt. has been worked. Row 39: K (1 R, 1 W, 3 R, 1 W) 6 times, 1 R, 1 W, 1 R, @9 sts), turn cast on I st. Row 40 ; P (1 W, 2 R) 5 times, 1 W, 1 R (17 sts), cast on 1 st, turn (18 sts). Now work the first finger, thus :— Row 41: K 1R (i W,1R, 1 W, 3 R) twice, 1 W, 1 R, 1 W,2R. Row 42: P (1. Break off wool and thread through sts ; draw together and secure. 2nd Finger : With right side of work towards you, join in wool on last st. on Right- hand needle, pick up 4 sts. at the base of Ist Finger, then work 8 sts. in patt, cast on one st, turn. Now, reading each row backwards, work to match the Right Hand. Sew up all the seams, then, with Red wool work a row of double-crochet from the wrist around Thumb, then along the seams of each Finger, down along the other edge of glove, finishing again at the wrist on the opposite side, Press under a damp cloth with a hot iron. THE COLLAR: With No. 12 Needles cast on 136 sts in R and k 1, p 1 rib for 15 rows, Cast off very loosely, ASSEMBLY and FINISH : Seam up the shoulders and neatly set the tops of sleeves into the arm-holes. Carefully press, while still open, on the wrong side under a damp cloth with a hot iron. Fold collar piece in two lengthwise and sew neatly to neck edge and press. Sew up rem seams and press.
