Mr. Galicia worked in a construction facility for 25 years. When he retired at 60 years of
age, he was virtually deaf. Now his wife and children need to speak close to his ears
before he can hear them or he needs to lip-read to understand them.

4. Describe specific points to remember when caring for a person with hearing
impairment.

=When caring to a person with a hearing impairment, we must observe the following;

1. Speak clearly, slowly, distinctly, but naturally, without shouting or exaggerating

mouth movements. Shouting distorts the sound of speech and may make
speech/lip reading more difficult.

2. If the hearing-impaired person has difficulty understanding a particular phrase

or word, try to find a different way of saying the same thing, rather than
repeating the original words over and over.
3. Hold conversations in areas where there is little background noise and do not talk
too fast or too slow.
