A $5,000 reward is being offered for
information that leads to an arrest in
the shooting death of a Ft. Myers man at
Samuel Pasco Park Saturday.
According to
Pasco County
Sheriff’s Office,
32-year-old
Carl Branch of

fatally shot
shortly before
1 p.m. for some
unknown rea-
son. It is be-
lieved at least

Bulldogs Win Third Straight Game

Zephyrhills made its senior night and the homecoming
game memorable rolling over visiting Anclote 48-0 to extend
its winning streak to three games.
The Bulldogs rushing game was dominant scoring five
times on the ground with a pair of touchdowns from Jaylin
Thomas and scores from Tre Gallimore, Zyre Roundtree and
Willie Queen. The passing of Jaxson Rivera netted two more
touchdowns hitting Clayton Cornelius and TJ Jackson for
scores.

Double Down And Drill
A 35-year-old Zephyrhills man is facing
drug and theft charges af-
ter a vehicle stop Oct. 9.
According to Zephyrhills
Police, Ronald Stafford
of 39563 Meadowood
Loop, was stopped by po-
lice for an alleged stop
sign violation. The officer
smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana com-
ing from the car. A search of the car re-
vealed a clear baggie wedged between the
seat and the console containing .26 grams
of Fentanyl. Also found was a craftsman
drill that was reportedly stolen. Stafford
told police he purchased the drill “on the
streets” earlier in the day. He was placed
under arrest and transported to the Pasco
County Jail. He was arrested again Oct. 18
for knowingly driving while license is sus-
pended, resisting arrest without violence,
possession of Fentanyl, possession of drug
paraphernalia, introduction of contraband
into detention facility and possession of
methamphetamine.
A 24-year-old Zephyrhills man was
arrested Oct. 10 for drug
charges and DUI after po-
lice saw him driving a ve-
hicle dragging a partially
detached bumper. Ac-
cording to ZPD, Donald
Geiger of 5101 Geiger
Cemetery Rd. was seen by
police at the intersection Fifth Avenue and
9th Street in a vehicle that was dragging its
bumper. When police got behind Geiger
and activated the lights and siren, he con-
tinued going south on Fifth Avenue, swerv-
ing until he crashed into a mailbox. Police
said Geiger had glassy, bloodshot eyes and
a lacerated bottom lip. He was also report-
edly disoriented and unable to explain to
police what was happening. After Geiger
was removed from the vehicle, police no-
ticed a small plastic baggy with a crystal-
line substance that field-tested positive for
cocaine. He was taken to AdventHealth
Zephyrhills for medical clearance and later
transported to the Pasco County Jail.
A 21-year-old Zephyrhills man was
arrested for DUI with
property damage after a
traffic accident at Sixth
Street and Fifth Avenue
on Oct. 10. According to
Zephyrhills Police, Rob-
ert Vandemheen of
38310 4th Ave. was in-
volved in a crash where he allegedly struck
a light pole with his 2006 Dodge Pickup.
The report states that when police asked
Vandemheen if he was OK, he responded, “I
know I’m going to jail for DUI.” During the
DUI investigation, police said Vandemheen

became unruly and combative and had to
be restrained. He refused to comply with
field sobriety exercises and refused to pro-
vide a breath sample.
A 49-year-old Zephyrhills man was ar-
rested Oct. 13 on multiple charges after he
allegedly prevented his pregnant wife from
leaving the residence during a verbal alter-
cation. According to the ZPD complaint af-
fidavit, Jerry Farrow of 7797 Broad Pointe
Drive reportedly blocked the way of a stair-
way and took her keys away. He is facing
charges of aggravated stalking, false impris-
onment and aggravated domestic battery of
a pregnant victim. The victim told police
Farrow had been physically abusing her for
as long as they were married. She stated she
was in fear for her life after Farrow told her
she would not live after the next time she
called police. He was transported to ZPD
for processing and later turned over to the
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
A 51-year-old Zephyrhills man is facing
drug trafficking charges
after an Oct. 13 traffic
stop netted drugs, para-
phernalia, packaging and
a digital scale. According
to ZPD, Tony Stockton
of 2112 Anata Dr. was
stopped for a stop sign
violation. Police reportedly detected a
strong odor of marijuana coming from the
vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered a
black case containing 82.83 grams of meth-
amphetamine, 2.98 grams of marijuana, a
meth pipe, a marijuana pipe, packing mate-
rials and a digital scale. Police said Stock-
ton told police the drugs were his for per-
sonal use. He was placed under arrest and
transported to the Pasco County Jail.
A 40-year-old Zephyrhills man was
arrested Oct. 17 posses-
sion of meth and driving
while license suspended
following a traffic stop.
According to police,

stopped for a seatbelt
violation. Police smelled a strong odor of
marijuana. The driver and passenger de-
nied having a medical marijuana card
but admitted to smoking marijuana ear-
lier in the day. A search netted a black
case containing .97 grams of metham-
phetamine. A check revealed his license
was suspended and he denied ownership
of the methamphetamine.
The information provided in the Zephyrhills
Police report is taken from public record
and news sources. All parties are considered
innocent until proven guilty.

Early Voters May Experience Longer Waiting Times Than Normal

The polls opened Monday for the
early voting period of the 2020 General
Election which runs through Oct. 31.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7
p.m. for early voting in 14 Pasco County
locations. In partnership with Pasco
County, four recreation complexes have
been added to the list of early voting sites
in addition to the government centers,
libraries and community centers utilized
in the Primary. Registered Pasco County
voters can vote at any voting location
during the early voting period.
Early voters may experience longer
wait times due to higher voter turnout
and as a result of CDC-recommended
measures for the health and safety of
voters and poll workers such as social
distancing, limiting the number of voters
inside the early voting site and continuous
cleaning of equipment and surfaces.
The use of masks is strongly encouraged
in keeping with the county mask

Voters must present a photo and
signature ID when early voting or

available at all 14 early voting sites. Drop
boxes are attended throughout the day
and ballots are securely removed daily.
Per Florida law, vote-by-mail ballots
cannot be dropped off at the polling
locations on Election Day. A full slate of offices is up for grabs and early voting polling places are open and ready.

Vande Berg was a promising tennis star
from Zephyrhills who died Oct. 11, 2015 in
a motor vehicle crash.
“It’s so exciting and so emotional,”
said Sarah’s father Todd Vande Berg, the
city’s planning director. “We have been
working on this for three years. To see
what we’ve been able to do here with
all the partnerships to make it what it is
today, makes me walk around here in
amazement.”
He knows it’s a facility that would make
his daughter proud.
“I know Sarah is looking down today
and smiling. She is looking down in
disbelief that the City of Zephyrhills did
this for her.”
It was an event where Sarah’s mother
Charla Vande Berg could feel the love.
“To see this beautiful facility in honor
of my daughter is a beautiful tribute,” she
said. “My heart is full. I can’t believe how
beautiful this facility is. It’s just gorgeous.”

Burgess said. “I can’t believe where I am
right now. I am in Zephyrhills and this is
truly magnificent. This is going to be a
destination regionally and nationally and
it’s right here in our little hometown of
Zephyrhills.”
When Burgess was in the legislature, he
and State Senator Wilton Simpson helped
secure state funding to help pay for the
facility.
“This is something that is going to
transform the community,” Simpson said.
“See the support from the community, it
made this easy to want to support. When
you think about bringing people from all
over the world to Zephyrhills, you are
proud to be part of it.”
This took a tremendous amount of local
support from the City of Zephyrhills, which
viewed the tennis and wellness center as
an investment that is expected to be an
economic generator to the community.
“It surpasses anything I could think of,”
said City Councilman Lance Smith. “It’s
fantastic and it will be fantastic for the
whole community. The council has been
on board and receptive to this. This is a
great legacy in Sarah.”
The project spanned the end of
Zephyrhills City Manager Steve’s Spina’s
tenure with the city and the onset of a
career of current City Manager Billy Poe.
“We’re known for water and skydiving,
said Poe. “We’re soon going to be known
for tennis. This center is first class. It’s
unbelievable. When you stand out here,
you forget you’re in Zephyrhills. You feel
like you’re at a resort somewhere.”
It was announced that tournaments are
already booked for the facility which will
bring players and fans from throughout the
world to Zephyrhills.
“The economic drive that the city thinks
this is going to be has no limit,” Poe said.
“There are tournaments coming and that
is what are hoping for. It will bring more
people to Zephyrhills. Let them experience
Zephyrhills and maybe they’ll stay. Other
business will thrive because of this.”

correct. River Ridge is coming in here and
they are a damn good football team. They
are coached really well. We have to bring
our A-game Friday night.”
Senior football players, cheerleaders
and band members were honored prior to
the game, but there were no homecoming
festivities associated with the game.
Homecoming festivities were postponed
until the Spring 2021.
“I told them as a football player, you
remember big games like homecoming,
playoff games and rivalry games,” said
Carroll, who recalls his homecoming
game as a Bulldog. “I still remember my
homecoming game. I had a pick-six right
there my senior year.”
It was a show for the homecoming
crowd however as Gallimore opened
the first-quarter scoring with a 22-yard
touchdown run followed by Thomas’
8-yard touchdown scamper to put the
Bulldogs up 14-0. Thomas added a 6-yard
scoring run in the second quarter to give
Zephyrhills a 20-0 lead.
The second half started fast on the first
play when quarterback Rivera hit Jackson
with a 58-yard scoring pass to put the
Bulldogs up 27-0. Roundtree hit another
big play with his 50-yard touchdown run
to make 34-0.
“It feels very great to have that much
talent in the backfield,” Roundtree said.
“All week we were preparing. We were
able to run it tonight. It shows my big
boys came to play, do their job and move
us down the field.”
In the fourth quarter Rivera hit
Cornelius with a 15-yard touchdown
pass. Queen wrapped up the scoring on a
long touchdown run.
Through the scoring, Rivera showed
off his kicking talents as well going 6-of-7
on extra points.
Despite all the scoring, it was the
defense that put on another show,
shutting down the Sharks. Zephyrhills
has outscored opponents 125-7 in the last
three games.
“I love seeing that goose egg on the
scoreboard,” said senior Brian Ashmore.
“We worked hard all week for this. This is
great with my whole family here.”
The defense will be tested Friday when
River Ridge comes to Bulldog Stadium.
“We are playing smashmouth football
on defense with perfect preparation,” said
senior nose tackle Dajuan McCullough.
“It’s amazing we put on a good show for
the people who came here to spend their
money to see some great football.”

“I’m glad we won, but if we don’t change and get
rid of these penalties, we’re in trouble in the playoffs,”
said Smith. “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy even
though they were 0-4 coming in here. They play some
really tough competition.
“We are definitely a second-half team, but we tried
to come out quick with the short passes. We couldn’t
complete them and the penalties killed us.”
At the 8:20 mark of the fourth quarter, Novo went
to work again when he found Cook for a 50-yard
touchdown pass to put the Warriors up 14-6.
