Introduction: This method statement describes the detailed procedure for Underground Excavation of the T-77D Tunnel (Main Tunnel and Nitches) including primary tunnel support as per approved drawings. Scope of Work: The brief scope of work under this Package Tunnel T77D is as per given below: Construction of Tunnel T-77D (Km 146.60 to 148.36 approx. (westem side of Bichelri river) of tunneling plus concrete lining, Main Tunnel, niches, lay by, and all other ancillary works as per approved drawings. Construction of T-77D Main Tunnel, from South Portal to North Portal (almost approx. 1760 m underground and cut & cover as per approved drawings) of tunneling plus conerete lining including niches, lay by and all ancillary works as per approved drawings. Construction of the final T-77D Tunnel, Main Tunnel and Portals structures including backfilling as per approved drawings. Main Tunnel South side Portal, North side Portal, Portal Slope Stabilization and Slope Protection as per requirement, This also includes temporary slope stabilization and slope protection for safe execution of work. Earthwork in cutting in all kinds of soils/rocks at approaches of tunnels ineluding disposal of surplus spoils. Submission of detailed construction schedule, excavation advance rate, method statements with related detailed drawings and equipment planning, for various items ‘of work. Resource based construction program shall be prepared by the contractor and submitted within 21 days from date of LOA. After submission of this resource based construction program, contract will be signed and it shall be part of the contract agreement, Maintenance of the existing access road to tunnel and construction of any other intemal roads or any other road which will be required to be constructed / developed by the contractor to complete the project in all respect, is the responsibility of contractor. Any other incidental/ancillary works as directed by Engineer-in-charge. The above items of work shall include but not limited to the following: i. Inner lining and all other concrete works as shown on the drawings and the construction of the final portal structures and other concrete works at the Main Tunnel. ii, Excavation and disposal of all types of soils and rocks from open excavation ete, as per NEERI guidelines iii, Excavating and disposing of all types of soils and rocks from underground excavations as directed by the ENGINEER (as per NEERI guidelines), iv. Drilling and grouting. Providing Supply, Installation and Monitoring of Tunnel Instrumentations with real time monitoring including 3D monitoring and geo-tech instrumentation and providing the data to IRCON/DDC, as required by them and as per the specifications mentioned in Special Conditions of Contract - IB. vi. Providing, handling, erection and installation of soil and rock supporting systems such as fiber glass elements, fiber reinforced sprayed conerete (if required), steel ribs/lattice girders, TH44, HEA/HEB/ISSC, Wale beam, rock bolts, wire mesh, Swellex Rock Bolts/Dowels (fore poling), SN type rock bolt, self- drilling rock Bolts, shear dowels, etc. as per the site conditions and as/or directed by Engineer-in-Charge. vii. Concrete. manufacture, delivery and placement including providing & installing form works and scaffolds. viii, Handling, cutting, bending, binding and placing of reinforcement stee!. ix. Construction of side drains, underground drain etc. x. Construction of Civil Work of Electrical substations including pressurization pump group and water reserve for fire-fighting system, as per approved drawings. The no. of sub-stations is only indicative, It may increase as per final approved design, Work shall be done as per final approved design/drawings. xi. Maintenance of the existing approach road shall be the contractor responsibility at their own cost. However removal of land slide material due to landslides if any shall be payable as per relevant BOQ items xii, All safety arrangements as per relevant IS, IRC and IRS Codes of practice and as specified in the tender documents. xiii, Temporary ventilation. xiv. Conveyance of explosives from main magazine to work site, storage of explosives at work site as per site requirements by arranging contractor's own stationary & mobile magazine, storage, security ete. xv. In the projects three types of Roads have been defined i.e.: 1. Approach Road to Project. 2. Access Road to Portals and Adits from Approach Road 3. Feeder Roads as per requirement of Contractor. Road at 1 & 2 above are to be maintained as per BOQ. However, roads at 3 are to be constructed and maintained by contractor at his own cost, xvi, Lighting during construction in tunnels, pumping of water. xvii, Provision and maintenance of quality control laboratory at site with office in the laboratory for IRCON/DDC’s quality control engineer. xviii, Provision of Temporary Site Offices including Furnishing for IRCON Site Staff, Northern Railway Staff & Ircon’s nominated representatives for METHOD STATEMENT FOR TUNNEL REV: RO. lg axsTOUCTON OMAN wT. Submission of tunnel survey reports i.e, Gyromat Survey or equivalent from time to time as decided by the ENGINEER. xx. Submission of video of tunnel construction operations and progress reports with digital photo graphs in both hard and soft copies xxi. Maintenance of all works for the specified period which is indicated in Appendix to tender. xxii. Provision of all drainage and services pipe as per approved drawings, xaiii, Provision of river training works as per approved drawings. xxiv. IRCON I has already appointed the DDC for the above work. The work shall bbe done as per the instructions of IRCON/DDC. The tunneling work shall be carried out by NATM. xxv. The Drawings attached with these tender documents are only for tender purpose and for guidance, The works shall be done as per GOOD FOR CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS which shall be issued in due course of time. The tenderer/s will not have any claim on account of this. 3. Drilling shall be carried out as per approved patterns. Drilling depth shall be as per the rock strata and as per the approved drawing accordingly C. Charging and Blasting: ‘The loading of explosives will be done through the basket of the Drill Jumbo or using lifting platform. Non- Electric Detonators will be used so that the charging is done in parallel with Drilling. Appropriate drilling and blasting pattem as per the strata encountered shall be used. We will be done controlled blasting method when the ‘tunneling works run under the Bankoot Nala. Trained Blasters and Mining Engineer shall supervise loading of Explosives and blasting operations. D. Defuming: After the blasting the work face will be defumed of all gases by the tunnel ventilation system which shall be provided for all work faces. Equipment for measuring and monitoring the content of noxious gases and oxygen at each heading face throughout the duration of excavation work shall be provided and safety officer of BCC shall monitor it on daily basis. Scaling: After blasting, the loose materials shall be scaled and removed using Excavator. Any undercut will also be trimmed off by the same excavator. Any perilous visible wedges which may cause fall of rock shall be cut with the help of excavator. Safety measures shall be adopted as per provisions of IS 4756. F. Mucking: ‘The mucking will be carried out by hydraulic excavator PC 200/Wheel Loader. Geological Mapping/Survey: Soon after clearing the excavated muck, the work force along with Geologists shall inspect the cut surface and remove all loose and suspended material. The mapping will be done jointly with DDC/IRCON and BCC’s Geologists; they will then prepare a face log for every pull. Excavation profile shall be recorded by survey team. Any unavoidable over break beyond pay line area shall be defined in consultation with the Engineer/DDC. H. Sealing and Face Shoterete & Face Rock Bolting: Depending upon the rock mass classification type 1, 2, 3, 3A and 3B or as per instructions of Engineer-In-Charge/ DDC, Initially a shoterete layer of 50 mm will be sprayed on the tunnel Face and 30mm will be sprayed on the excavation soffit. Fixing of Welded Wire mesh: Depending upon the rock mass classification type 1, 2, 3, 3A and 3B or as per instructions of Engineer-In-Charge/ DDC, one layer or two layer welded wire mesh will be fixed at Wall and Roof, J. Rib/Lattice Girder Fixing: Lattice girders are fabricated with reinforcement bars of diameter ranging from 10mm to 32 mm as per the approved drawings. The reinforcement steel shall confirm to the IS 1786. The steel shall be Fe 500 grade. Lattice girder shall consist of three primary bars, connected by stiffening elements. The members are connected by welding. Fabrication of lattice girder shall be done at fabrication yard. The fabricated members transported to site and with the help of working platform these will be erected inside the tunnel. showing installation of La K. All material and water without accelerator will be accurately weighed, batched and mixed to produce the shoterete mix at batching plant as per approved Mix Design and transported to the placement point by transit mixers with a capacity of 6 cum. The mixture is then conveyed to the nozzle where air and accelerator is injected to increase velocity and projected without interruption in to place with positive displacement. Wet shoterete machine with a robotic arm and a nozzle fitted will be used for application of Shotcrete in tunnel. We will take all precautions while shotereting to reduce the rebound which will be monitored and kept minimum while execution of works. The shotcreting shall be carried out as per the technical specifications mentioned in contract clause no. 8.3 of Special conditions of contract (Part-IIB). L. The rock bolting shall be carried out as per the technical specifications mentioned in contract clause no. 8.6 of Special conditions of contract (Part-IIB). * Installation of rock bolts using the 2 boom hydraulic drilling jumbo Rock bolts will be provided, depending on class of rock encountered and as directed by Engineer-in-charge/DDC. These will be installed as detailed in the technical specifications. Drilling for installing rock bolts will be carried out using the 2 boom hydraulic drilling jumbo. Rock bolts shall be installed according to the length and pattern as specified in the drawing or as per instructions of DDC/IRCON. All rock bolts will be properly grouted. In case of SDR the post grouting will be done while as for SN bolt pre grouting will be done by Mai pump with specified consistency of grout. Specified torque will be applied to all rock bolts with a calibrated torque wrench not less than 12 hours of grouting by applying 20 KN force. Fore poling: Drilling for fore poling will be carried out using 2-boom hydraulic jumbo available from tunnel excavation. Fore poling elements are inserted at spacing as mentioned in drawing, over the periphery of the excavated face towards the direction of advance. The fore poling elements are installed at an angle of 5 to 10 or as per relevant drawing. As per relevant specifications the fore poling element is grouted with cement grout /mortar. Dowels (splices) consisting of deformed high yield steel bars of minimum grade Fe 500 of diameters of 32 mm and 25mm may be used for fore poling. Pipe Roofing (114 mm outer dia, 6.3 mm wall thickness & 15m long (12m steel tube+3m PVC tube): Locations where rock will be very loose or have extremely poor or in a flowing condition and / or where RMR value is very low pipe roofing will be done using 114 ‘mm outer dia steel tube. The grouting will be done through these pipes to consolidate the surrounding rock mass. METHOD STATEMENT FOR TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION ( EXCAVATION AND ideno ROCK SUPPORT) CPMG (Central Planning and Methodology Group) 11, Communication System: In the tunnel, an intermediate intercom station shall be located at least every 500 m. This communication system shall have its sources of energy independent of the energy supply for underground works. The availability of the communication between tunnel and above ground shall be ensured at all times throughout the duration of the underground construction. 12, Site HMumination: We will install, operate and maintain a lighting system in the underground works during construction. The lighting intensity along the tunnel shall be at least 75 lux. Each working face shall be brightly illuminated by one or more additional high intensity movable lamps. Emergency lighting equipment shall be placed within 100 m of the face. Suitable high-intensity movable lamps shall be provided by the Contractor to illuminate any area in the underground works where testing or other inspection is carried out. The Contractor shall install a switch connector at every 50 m along the tunnels to provide lighting for the surveying and monitoring work. Burned-out fluorescent or incandescent lamps shall be replaced every shift. Bumed-out high intensity lamps shall be replaced as soon as possible from a reserve stock, which shall be kept as close as practicable to the working face. All lighting shall be weather- proof. Ventilation System with Calculation: Forced fresh air ventilation system shall be adopted during tunnel excavation and construction. The material for ventilation ducting shall be non-combustible. All the equipment and ventilation duct shall be maintained in sound working order at all times. Any damage or repair shall be attended immediately. All the work force shall be withdrawn before blasting operation and shall be allowed to re-enter only after complete removal of blasting fumes from the working area. No gasoline operated equipment shall be used in tunneling works. Diesel engines shall be provided with means of reducing the concentration of toxic gases to acceptable levels. Filtering means for preventing emission of flames or sparks shall be provided. All the means used shall be maintained in efficient order at all times during work in progress. 15. Dewatering Arrangement: Proper gravity drainage system shall be made at the base of the tunnel for up-gradient portions. Sumps shall be made at required intervals along length of tunnel with down-gradients and dewatering pumps of 5 - 15 HP, as required, shall be installed and water shall be pumped out through the 150mm dia. delivery pipeline fixed to the side wall all along the tunnel. 16. Cycle Time: Proper documentation shall be done as and when required.
