If you have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace on or
after 28 September you’re under a legal obligation to do so, and
could be eligible for a £500 Test and Trace Support Payment.
You may be eligible for the payment if you meet all the criteria,
including being unable to work from home and receiving certain
benefits. If you don’t fulfil all the criteria you may instead be able
to apply for a £500 discretionary payment.
Whether it’s a Test and Trace Support Payment or a discretionary
payment you must apply within 14 days of your self-isolation
period ending.
See tunbridgewells.gov.uk for full details and how to apply.

Hands Face Space

Here’s one message that doesn’t change. Wash your hands, cover
your face and remember to make about 2m space around you.

Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds,
or using hand sanitizer, regularly throughout the day will reduce
the risk of catching or passing on the virus. Face covering means
if you’re carrying the virus you’re less likely to spread it when
you exhale and continuing to make space has a powerful impact
when it comes to containing the spread.

NHS App
The NHS COVID-19 app is available to
download for free. It is the fastest way to see if
you’re at risk from coronavirus. The faster you
know, the quicker you can alert and protect
your loved ones and community. If you enter a
venue that has an official NHS COVID-19 QR
code poster at the entrance, you should scan it
with your app, that way if other people were at
the same venue at the same time as you, and
later test positive for coronavirus (COVID-19),
you may get an alert to let you know. Download
the app at covid19.nhs.uk

Amelia Scott
Artist
Commissions
A quick update on the renovations... we are pleased to say
that progress continues to be made on site and everything
is on track to open to the public in spring 2022.

To get ready for the opening, we have launched an invitation to

designers and artists in the creative world to submit ambitious
and exciting proposals to create seven large-scale artworks
(by different artists if possible!) that will take pride of place
in The Amelia Scott Building, Royal Tunbridge Wells. Each
piece of art will embody The Amelia’s mission of ‘enriching
lives, inspiring learning’. These innovative new art pieces
will welcome and encourage visitors to explore, engage and
interact with them. The commissions have only been made
possible through generous funding from Arts Council England.

We will receive proposals in early January, and the artists will

be chosen by March 2021. All submitted proposals will be
considered by the Artist Commission Selection Panel, made
up of industry experts and the local community. Once the
decisions have been made we will share the news with readers.

More information is on the Amelia website theamelia.co.uk

Supporting Porchlight
Mayor Joy Podbury says... I have chosen Porchlight as the charity
for my year of office. Porchlight supports homeless, vulnerable,
and isolated people in Kent. As you can imagine the demand for
their service has increased enormously over the last few months.
To mark World Homeless Day, and to raise awareness of the
work they do, Porchlight asked us to support them by ‘Wearing
Purple for Porchlight’ and sharing our photos on social media.
The response was phenomenal, especially when we soon
discovered purple is not currently a fashionable colour.
We also visited Porchlight head office and met with
members of the team, to learn about the additional
difficulties they are having to deal with due to the risk
of Covid-19. We were greeted with the news that
we have received over £2,000 in donations! Such
fantastic news as we are currently unable to arrange
fundraising events.
If you wish to make a donation, it would be very
much appreciated, please visit
porchlight.org.uk/donate and reference ‘Mayor’
in the comments box.

Alex Dunmall
Alexander is an 8-year-old junior golfer from Five Oak Green. In October 2018 against
all the odds Alexander won the Paris junior cup at The Disneyland Course. Plus he
qualified for the US Kids World Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 2019.

Harley has shown pure grit and determination throughout this last year, he has

pandemic through zoom sessions. I have never seen such courage from a 12-year-
old and we are so proud of what good sportsmanship he has demonstrated.

ETHICAL BUSINESS
The Forum
Tunbridge Wells Forum has taken steps to reduce carbon emissions with a recycling, energy
saving programme. Introduced eco-cups and e-tickets to cut down on waste, replaced
PA system to be more eco efficient, along with new heating system, all lighting fittings
LED. Roof space insulated, reclaimed materials made use of and continued recycling.
Zero Waste Company
Charlotte and Holly run The Zero Waste Company on the Pantiles and have gone
above and beyond. They stock a wide range of vegan, vegetarian, eco-friendly,
ethical, sustainable and plastic free products so as well as serving the local
community they are helping fight plastic pollution and help save our planet.
TW Nappy Library
Tunbridge Wells Nappy Library is run by Kate. She is modest and seemingly unaware of what
an amazing thing she is doing. In just a generation we seem to have lost our way with cloth
nappies and this seems like an easy way to chip away at our huge environmental issues.
