Argument Writing Homework 1- Formative

For full credit: Students must have one argument written for all three of the prompts. Students
should write at least one detail supporting their argument. The language should be precise and
include no personal pronouns.

For partial credit: Students completed all three arguments, but did not include supporting detail
for each one. Student uses any personal pronouns, or if the student leaves one blank.

For no credit: Student leaves more than one argument blank. Student does not include any
supporting detail for the argument and if the student uses personal pronouns.

Exit Ticket- Formative

For full credit: The student writes three components that they think are the most important to
writing argumentative and support why they believe that. Student includes detail about the
language, structure and use of supporting details in their exit ticket.

For partial credit: Student includes less than three components of what makes a good argument
essay. Student does not mention language, structure, or use of supporting details.

For no credit: Student writes no more than one component to an argument and provides no
detail to support their reasoning.

Full Paragraph- Summative

3 Points:
- Student includes a clear argument that takes one side
- Student includes three or more supporting detail sentences that relate to and support the
argument
- Student writes using no personal pronouns and the paragraph flows properly
- Student uses evidence from the text and cites properly
2 Points
- Student provides an argument that takes one side
- Student includes two supporting details for the argument
- Student uses evidence from the text in an unclear way that does not support the
argument
1 Point
- Student’s argument is unclear and does not clearly take one side
- Student has one or no supporting detail for the argument
- Student uses personal pronouns in the argument paragraph
