The Rocky Mountain National Park invites school groups K-12 for
Ranger-Guided Field Trips
ESTES PARK, Colo. (DEC. 7, 2020) – The Rocky Mountain National Park located in Colorado
is offering ranger-guided field trips for school groups K-12. The annual field trips occur from
mid-January to early November.

During the ranger-guided field trips, kids will learn about the park’s wildlife, ecology and
geology through direct experience at the park.

Schedule a field trip by calling 970-586-1338 with three preferred dates, the ages of the group,
the school grade and the number of students. A three-month notice is preferred because spots are
on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The field trips are free for school groups and consist of a park visit with a complimentary lunch.
Each school chooses the topic of the program, focusing on a specific area of the park.

“It was so awesome to see young people doing true science in the field. The striking impact and
value of this type of course can be seen by the students, the instructors, and the outside
facilitators” Ranger Elizabeth said.

The rangers use the Colorado State Academic Standards to create the programs and can be
changed to fit a specific curriculum. The programs vary in length and seasonal availability.

“The students had an amazing opportunity to experience the Rocky Mountain National Park.
This was certainly evident by the smiles and friendships” Ranger Elizbeth said.

During field trips, chaperons must be present. The school grade of the group determines the
chaperon ratio.

The Rocky Mountain National Park has been a place of exploration since the late 1700s. The
park allows for recreational activities that include hiking, climbing, picnicking, bicycling and
fishing. Further information about the Rocky Mountain National Park can be found at
